As discussed in this thread, any users of a database are able to share that database with other users, even if the creator didn’t authorize those other users. Furthermore, any users of a database are able to duplicate the database without permission from the creator. The creator is never alerted to any of these actions, either. This is a huge security concern for any business. Creators should be the only ones who are allowed to share the table with other users OR duplicate the table. Period. If the creator wants other people to be able to share or duplicate the table, then they should EXPLICITLY be able to turn on those privileges for specific users. Additionally, if another user shares or duplicates the database, the creator should then be informed of it via email. Otherwise, as it stands now, we have a potential security nightmare. ... We’ve started regularly using Airtable for company data recently—we love it! However, we’re all getting reeeeeally frustrated with the way Airtable links are unfurled in Slack. We regularly share bases in Slack, so when there are a few links in a feed one after another, the current unfurled information is generic and unproductive. The image is particularly unhelpful as it takes up a lot of room! I’ve spoken to Slack about this, and it seems if you were able to add some more dynamic content in your metadata tags in the header of Airtable pages, so much useful information could be displayed and would be huge boost in productivity for my team. In addition to Grid, Gallery, Kanban, etc. I’d like to be able to do a custom layout for a view-- resizing record fields to optimize their visual display. (Does anyone remember Bento? It was, functionally, similar to AirTable and it would allow you to customize the layout of data views with drag & drop fields that you could resize and place into single, double, or triple columns). It would be really cool if we could copy and paste the actual fields themselves (not the data) between tables. For example, if I have 5 fields that are: single-select field multi-select field checkbox field number field formula field based on the fields above I would love to copy all 5 of those fields and then paste them into another table. (No copying of data is necessary.) And then, upon pasting those 5 fields into another table, I would end up with: A single-select field with the exact same options & colors that were in the other table. A multi-select field with the exact same options & colors that were in the other table. A checkbox field that is formatted the same way as the other table. A number field that is formatted the same way as the other table. The same formula, but referencing the fields in this new table. This is something that comes up a lot when it comes time to “cleaning up” my client’s Airtable systems. I am often eliminating a lot of unnecessary tables and consolidating tables together. But I have to recreate each field from scratch, and recreate all the formatting/coloring options from scratch. It’s not too difficult to recreate the select-field options (since we can convert a text field into a select-field), but it would be awesome if we could just copy & paste everything in one fell swoop. It would help us out in a major way if we could color code multiple columns at a time. Ideally, we’d love to be able to see green vs red differences in how much we spent vs how much our budget was for several of our products. Long-time fan…yet… this one thing has always perplexed me… Why can someone that ONLY has ‘view access’ to a base… can then go duplicate that entire base with all the records and then become the owner of it… all while having no audit trail of who did it. I don’t know about you but I put lots of time building my Airtables… building out custom workflows, app dashboards, syncing tables from other bases, in-depth field descriptions, specific views and putting accurate information in there to collaborate, communicate and grow with others. It is IP that an organization builds, putting countless hours into perfecting… yet anyone with ‘view’, ‘commenting’, ‘editing’ or ‘creator’ access can take that IP with no accountability. Basically, I would like to significantly reduce who has access to 'duplicate a base’ Only the 'Owner" access should be able to duplicate the base: not the creator, editor, comment or view access. Additionally add an audit trail to who duplicated the base. Maybe even giving specific users ‘this person can duplicate or not’ but I think the owner simplification would be more than sufficient. Without this option, it is such a security shortcoming that it limits the number of users I have using Airtable. And I want to tell everyone in the world about Airtable… Airtable has given me a way to organize my thoughts / systems that I didn’t know was possible. I love the origin and root behind open source programs but please let me have the option to make it open source or not. That is like someone having access to your CRM and with one button, can duplicate all customer records and how they all interact with each other. User Story As an account admin I would like control of who can duplicate our base and it’s contents. if someone can duplicate, I want a record of who did it and when. Resources I am aware of Duplicating Bases - No mention on how to avoid this Yes I know you can send over ‘views’ to people to mitigate this issue… you can send over forms so they can add records to it… grids / galleries with only the information they need to know.
