Automation on Extensions

Hello,

I am currently setting up an automation to send an email when a form is submitted. I had also created an extension page that is a confirmation sheet of sorts for clients that auto-fills information based on what information is submitted via the form in question. I was wondering if it is possible to attach this extension to an email automation. Or even automate this sheet to send on it’s own without an attached email message.

Thanks!

Hm, I assume you’re talking about Airtable Extensions? https://support.airtable.com/docs/airtable-extensions-overview

If so, whether you’re able to use it with automations depends on which extension it is and if you could provide the name of the extension I could help you take a look at that!

On the off chance you’re talking about the Page Designer extension then there isn’t a way to automate that I’m afraid.  The workaround is to use a third party PDF generation tool like DocsAutomator, or if it’s a simple PDF you could create your own automation with Make, Zapier etc that’ll be much cheaper

Unfortunately you cannot directly attach Airtable extensions on email automations.  They live inside the base and do not translate to email.

The best way is to pull in the relevant fields and format them into the email itself rather than sending the extension.  If the “confirmation sheet” is about presenting the submitted data cleanly, building the layout inside the email action will get you the same result.

For something more polished like a full PDF type of confirmation, using something like Make or Zapier can be a good way to connect those services with automation.  These services can allow you to fill out a template and attach it to an email automatically.

@PC26142503

Unfortunately, Airtable extensions cannot be automated in anyway.

However, it sounds like you could use Fillout’s advanced forms for Airtable, which is 100% free and lets you automatically generate custom PDF files from a form submission.

I show off this feature on this Airtable podcast episode:

Alternatively, if you need more advanced PDFs than what Fillout can provide to you, you can also check out these other PDF-creation tools for Airtable:

  1. DocsAutomator — creates Google Docs documents or PDF files.
  2. Typeflow — creates PDF files.
  3. DocuMint — creates PDF files. Very challenging to setup.
  4. Make’s integrations — which can be integrated with any PDF-creation app of your choosing, such as CraftMyPDF. You can even integrate something as simple as custom Microsoft Word documents.

If you’ve never used Make before, I’ve assembled a bunch of Make training resources in this thread. For example, here is one way that you can instantly trigger a Make automation from Airtable.

Hope this helps!
