Hi,
i’ve created an automation to update a record (eg. personal information) when a form is submitted to update.however for some applicants, is giving me this error. anyone that can help? thank you

What are you using as the Record ID input for your “update record” step?
Currently, your automation will only work if the “Find Records” action finds ONE matching record — but you will need to use the “List of Record ID’s” from the Find Records step as the Record ID to update.
(Note that your automation will not work if it finds zero records or more than one record. If it finds more than one record, you would need to setup a repeating action to “loop through” the records that were found in your “Find Records” action, and then you can update each found record.)
However, there is a much better & much easier & much faster way for your applicants to update their own information in your Airtable base.
Your #1 best bet for this is to use Fillout’s advanced forms for Airtable because it enables your applicants to directly update their own Airtable record using a form.
No automations needed, no pre-filled links needed, no complicated setups — Fillout just directly communicates with Airtable to update existing Airtable records.
Fillout is 100% free, and I show how to use a few of the advanced features of Fillout on these 2 Airtable podcast episodes:
Fillout also offers hundreds of other features that Airtable’s native forms don’t offer, including the ability to create custom PDF files from a form submission, accept payments on forms, pre-fetch dynamic data from an Airtable record, customize the style and branding of your form, customize a theme for your form, display Airtable lookup fields on forms, create new linked records on a form, add a login page to your form, perform math or other live calculations on your forms, collect signatures on a form, create multi-page forms with conditional paths, and much more.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the screenshot of the automation run!
From the screenshot, we can see that the ‘Record ID’ section is empty and so you’d want to start your troubleshooting there:

Assuming the error is because the ‘Find Record’ step can’t find an existing Ambassador record, you could try adding a conditional step into your automation so that it looks ike the following. The idea is that if it manages to find an Ambassador record with the same name it’ll link it, and if not it’ll create a new record and link it
I’ve got it set up here if that’s helpful!
