Editing already submitted forms

I am doing a hiring and searching for jobs database. I have made the form for everyone involved but would like for them to be able to change their availability status after having submitted the form. Is that possible? I haven‘t upgraded my subscription, I am still using the free version. I am new in airtable, still trying to figure it out if it is the answer for what I am looking for before I start paying.

Hey @HildaSugar!

Airtable forms DO NOT support updating of records.
However, you could:
(a) create a new table for Availability submissions, get those records linked to the corresponding Contact, and get on the contact’s table a lookup with the latest informed availability. This would work and you can handle it using airtable native features and forms.
(b) use Fillout forms, which (i) look way nicer, (ii) have a more powerful conditional logic, and (iii) support UPDATE RECORD forms with their simple and direct Fillout<>Airtable integration. Also, their free plan is probably all you’ll need.

Pleae feel free to reach out if you need any help setting this up! You can grab a slot using this link.

@HildaSugar

As @Mike_AutomaticN mentioned above, your #1 best bet for this is to use Fillout’s advanced forms for Airtable because it communicates directly with Airtable and it lets you update Airtable records directly from a form.

Fillout is 100% free, and it offers hundreds of features that Airtable’s native forms don’t offer, including the ability to update Airtable records using a formcreate custom PDF files from a form submissionaccept payments on formspre-fetch dynamic data from an Airtable recordcustomize the style and branding of your formcustomize a theme for your form, display Airtable lookup fields on forms, create new linked records on a formadd a login page to your form, perform math or other live calculations on your forms, collect signatures on a form, create multi-page forms with conditional paths, connect a single form to dozens of external apps simultaneously, add CAPTCHAs to your form, and much more.

I show how to use a few of the advanced features of Fillout on these 2 Airtable podcast episodes:

Hope this helps!

Hey there,

Thank you so much! I am new to airtable and have been on this for a couple of weeks now. I only now start to understand a little about what it does. I don‘t think I am mentally ready to start looking into fillout. 😅😱

I am very slow to understand, but I am fascinated about what airtable can do. Such a shame that editing already submitted forms is difficult.

I am unable to hire anyone right now. I would like to understand the system I am using first, figure out if my idea is actually a good one before I start investing any money.

In any case thank you very much for your replies, it was very helpful.

Best regards

Hilda

Airtable has a guide on how to allow people to edit records via a form that you can find here:

https://support.airtable.com/docs/updating-records-using-a-form-in-airtable
---

It’s easier if you just used Fillout for this though, really.  They’ve got a free plan that allows up to 1k submissions per month so chances are you wouldn’t need to pay for it in the long term either

I do free half hour calls and can walk you through either option if you’d like, and you can schedule a time here

Btw do make sure to request more powerful forms as a Feature Request using this form! That would help a lot.

Mike thanks a million!

Let me see how far I can get so I can make good use of those 30mins! 😉

I don‘t know where you are. Time difference might also be an issue. 😅

Once again thank you. All the information was very helpful.

Also, if you only started with relational datbases recently I would HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY suggest you take a look at this video re: data normalization.
