Is it possible to create a Google Calendar event for current user or user based on variable?

Hi,

It seems that the Google Calendar: Create Event requires a hard coded (chosen) calendar to place an event in. We have used a shared calendar for this, but it gets somewhat messy.

Hence, would it somehow be possible to have the event placed in a dynamically chosen calendar? Either <current user> or somehow derived based on a variable (e-mail addresse for example)?

Rgds,

Björn

Yes, you can do that, but you would need to create multiple conditional actions in your automation. Each conditional action would be linked to a different Google Calendar account.

Note that the admin who is initially setting up the automation would need to authenticate a connection to each person’s Google Calendar account when initially setting up the automation.

This is the same exact setup when using Make’s Google Calendar integrations as well, although Make supports more Google Calendar features than Airtable does.

Hope this helps!

Ah but of course, @ScottWorld, why didn’t I think about that. Unfortunately it’s a bit clunky, need to remember up update conditionals when people change. I had hoped uncover some secret way to activate dynamic handling of the automation configuration, allowing variables in the Calendar dropdown. But it makes sense that one needs to authenticate the right to write to the calendar, yes.

Cheers, it’s still a working workaround you suggested!

Yup I feel the pain @0800-grizzly! I don’t think we’ll get them anytime soon, but you might want to ask for “integrations with dynamic accounts” by filling out this product idea form! (I’d be a big supporter of the request lol).
