Is there a way to automate the following scenario using any of the automation tools (like Make, Zapier)

  1. A change in a field in airtable triggers a 'create a campaign' on mailchimp
  2. The campaign is reviewed and sent manually.
  3. The sent campaign triggers a 'change in status column' in the airtable.

Is this kind of two-way sync possible?

Thanks!

Yes, this is 100% possible with Make’s MailChimp modules and Make’s Airtable modules.

Ironically, I just spent the last few days setting this EXACT thing up for one of my clients that has 15 different MailChimp accounts (each account represents one of their nationwide branches), and all 15 MailChimp accounts are managed from one unified Airtable base.

It would take me too long to outline the entire step-by-step here, because it takes a while to setup, but the biggest learning curve for most people is figuring out how to use Make.

If you’ve never used Make before, I’ve assembled a bunch of Make training resources in this thread. For example, here is one of the ways that you could instantly trigger a Make automation from Airtable

I also give live demonstrations of how to use Make in many of my Airtable podcast appearances. For example, in this video, I show how to work with Airtable arrays in Make.

Hope this helps!

Curious - is your contact database in Mailchimp only or are you also managing contacts that receive campaigns in Airtable?
For two-way flows involving Airtable and Mailchimp, a practical pattern is to separate the “data layer” from the “campaign workflow layer.” Keep your audience data synced so campaigns get sent to the right contacts, then let an automation platform handle campaign creation and the callback that updates Airtable after sending.

@ScottWorld appears like the guy I’d hire for the campaign creation and feedback loop. If you or anyone else is looking for an easy way to sync Airtable contacts to Mailchimp then we at Outfunnel recently (re)launched our Airtable to Mailchimp integration
