Hello all,

I want to update a record and use the famous trick to have another table and submit form.
In the form a field contains the record_id of the line I want to update in the original table.

When I submit the form, the automation fail, when I copy/past content of the cells in another line, the automation works.

Here is a screencast to see the problem : https://youtu.be/DSfKKBnmfe0

And exemple of the lines (line 16 works well, line 15 breaks) :
16    rec4CbEaxD0FOSwWL    rec4CbEaxD0FOSwWL        Screenshot 2026-01-14 122852.png (https://airtable.com/appNAdRee7AIuvFLH/tblvVVZzS2tZ1btmg/recKXwRxIfZIWB847/fldD1Py2VRj2AtySo/attJtOQ7i1jcZtgKR)    Devis signé    checked    checked
15    rec4CbEaxD0FOSwWL    rec4CbEaxD0FOSwWL        Screenshot 2026-01-14 122852.png (https://airtable.com/appNAdRee7AIuvFLH/tblvVVZzS2tZ1btmg/rec16w5uCNmtP2gXq/fldD1Py2VRj2AtySo/attyeeGMrStyZYyDk)    Devis signé    checked    checked

And in automation the condition which doesn’t work :
16 RECORD_ID est " rec4CbEaxD0FOSwWL"
15 RECORD_ID est "rec4CbEaxD0FOSwWL"

Thanks a lot for your help everytime and hope you have a nice day ! :)
Seems like the same problem have not found solution yet :

Hello back,

I found why !!!

SOLUTION
Clean the record_id with formula :
REGEX_EXTRACT({RECORD_ID}, "rec[a-zA-Z0-9]{14}")

PROBLEM FOUND
While I don’t understand where these white special characters may come from, I found that the text from the form is not clean (while it is invisible to eye)…

I don’t really understand where this might come from as I prefill the field with record_id only and hide it so it’s untouchable :
https://airtable.com/appNAdRxx7AIxxXXX/pagXXXPM3BbOCrTsN/form?prefill_RECORD_ID={Record_ID}&Type=Devis+sign%C3%A9&hide_RECORD_ID=true&hide_Type=true

If someone find the answer, I welcome it ! :)

@Dodelita

Just an FYI:

The much easier & more bulletproof way to update records from a form is to use Fillout’s advanced forms for Airtable, because:

  • it doesn’t require creating any complicated prefill links
  • it doesn’t require any complex automations
  • it doesn’t require continually sending out a new prefill link, and
  • it doesn’t require collecting extraneous records in an extraneous table.

Fillout is 100% free and you can learn more about this feature here

Fillout also offers hundreds of other features that Airtable’s native forms don’t offer, including the ability to:

I show how to use a few of the advanced features of Fillout on these 2 Airtable podcast episodes:

Hope this helps!

Yes, thanks a lot @ScottWorld :)

The person I work with still prefer to use only one tool even though going through with Fillout would be a whole lot easier… 😶

Thanks for your answer and advice, reminding me to push the subject once again 😊
