Change single-select to checkbox without losing data?

I have a base that tracks work request tickets. One of the fields I initially built in was a ‘Priority’ field, with options of Low, Normal, and High. Having used this base for several months, nobody has ever selected Low and a wide majority have selected Normal, with a small handful of High.

I’d like to change this field to a checkbox for High priority, and we can assume the ticket is Normal otherwise.

Is there a way to change the field without losing the data that’s currently there? Can I somehow convert the ones that had selected “High” into having a checked box?

Yes, this is very easy to do.

Edit the field options for your single-select field, and change the word “Low” to the number 0, change the word “Normal” to the number 0, and change the word “High” to the number 1.

Save your changes before moving forward.

Then, go back into editing that field again, and change it from a single-select field to a checkbox field.

Save your changes and you’re done! :)

Then, you can also rename that field to “High Priority”.

Hope this helps!

@ScottWorld   Perfect, thanks!

This is exactly the kind of thing I was hoping someone might say. I could only think of a convoluted solution that involved using an automation to duplicate the status into another field, etc…

I appreciate the help!
