Question

Do field permissions on the data layer hold true for interface pages?

Hello!

We have a medium-sized team (50 people) that has recently moved to a newly built interface. Everyone in this team will have editor permissions for all of the fields that they see in the interface pages.

We also want to be transparent with our entire org (300 people) and share this interface with them as many will be making requests via a form that creates record in this interface. However, we’d like to restrict them to editing only a few fields.

Is this possible? Or will I just have to limit them to having commenter permissions?

Yes, the field permissions on the data layer carry over to the interface pages, so you’re good to go! :)

Thank you @ScottWorld !

So, to set up the scenario I laid out above, I need to give “editor” access to everyone for the interface? And make all of the interface fields “editable?” And then go into the data layer to restrict who can edit what field?

Do I have that right?

Yes, that should do the trick! :) Try it out and let me know how it goes!

Hey @ScottPhillips,

You can either go that route (will work). Or have a duplicate version of the interface, one for each “Group” of users!

The nice thing with Airtable is that you can customize permissions all the way down the field level. That does get challenging to manage, though, so if you can do your permissions at an interface level and provide edit access to those who need it and read / comment access to those who don’t, that will be much easier to manage.

Thanks all! I did what @ScottWorld suggested and that seems to be working like I need it.

I have restricted everything on the base later to just our small team that relies on this base/interface for production. And then at in the interface itself, I’ve invited all of our other colleagues to have editor permissions so that they can have editing capabilities to the 3 fields that I want to “open up” to them.
