Question

I am confused about where forms reside in my base.

In the left view column I have created forms. I also see that at the top of the page there is a row of links; Data, Automation, Interface, Forms. My question is should the forms created in View be duplicated in Forms or are they separate functions?

Thank you if you can help.

You should create new forms using the “Forms” option at the very top of your screen.

The “Forms” option in the left margin “views” menu are considered “legacy forms”. They are Airtable’s old legacy forms from many years ago that are no longer receiving any new features nor bug fixes nor updates from Airtable. They are extremely outdated compared to the forms option at the top of the screen, so it is actually very confusing to many of us as to why Airtable still allows us to create new forms in the “views” menu.

If you already have forms in the left “views” menu, it is generally considered to be a good idea to duplicate them into the forms area at the top, but note that the URL of your duplicated form will be different than the original URL of your original form.

Also, I always like to point out to people that if you are looking for forms that are a million times more powerful & feature-rich than Airtable's built- in forms, your #1 best bet is to use Fillout’s advanced forms for Airtable.

Fillout is 100% free, and it offers hundreds of features that Airtable’s native forms don’t offer, including the ability to update Airtable records using a formcreate custom PDF files from a form submissionaccept payments on formspre-fetch dynamic data from an Airtable recordcustomize the style and branding of your formcustomize a theme for your form, display Airtable lookup fields on forms, create new linked records on a formadd a login page to your form, perform math or other live calculations on your forms, collect signatures on a form, create multi-page forms with conditional paths, connect a single form to dozens of external apps simultaneously, add CAPTCHAs to your form, and much more.

I show how to use a few of the advanced features of Fillout on these 2 Airtable podcast episodes:

Hope this helps!

They’re separate

Form views (the ones on the left) are the original ones, they’re less customizable and have less functionality compared to Forms

I think the only reason we’d want to use View forms would be for the functionality that lets submitters request their responses.  You could just do this with an automation as well of course, but it’s a nice shortcut option to have if your form has a lot of fields

The new format for Forms and I feel that these can become very confusing most of the time.  I understand what Airtable is trying to do by making Forms another page within Interfaces which is nice but I do feel it is quite confusing having to organize things differently.  Basically New Forms are created as new Pages within Interfaces and you will likely find your forms there and not in the Form View on the left sidebar.

Yeah, that’s actually YET ANOTHER forms area, in addition to the “forms view” and in addition to the “forms section” at the top of the screen. So those “forms pages” are the 3rd area where you can create forms… those don’t appear at the top of the screen.

Yeah, there are too many form variants, to the point of helping folks out it’s hard to apprise what form version they’re using (forms section, form views, or form pages).

It’s a bit of a Microsoft problem in that you can’t really end of life form views as you don’t want to break existing workflows, but adding the forms section made things even more confusing.

In an ideal world I think, the form view would be removed as a selectable view moving forward (existing ones remain but no new ones can be made), while the forms section just lists the existing form pages (and anything new built through it is just an interface page). Then there’s just one form construction method (the form pages/interfaces).

In my 2026 wishlist post I mentioned it would be very handy if Airtable made 2026 their year of forms, cleaning up the UI cruft and making internal forms at least competitive with 3rd party form integrations like Fillout.

Thank all of you for your help. Since I have already built forms in the View column, I will have to duplicate them. I would have saved a lot of time if Airtable had made this evident from the beginning.

Scott, I will be in touch.

Hey @Greg F.,

Yup, I feel the pain. To avoid this for future reades, I wrote this simple article on where to find different forms/where/how to create them in Airtable.

Best,
Mike
