Hello I thought this would be simple to figure out but somehow its not working for me.

I have 4 tables.  They are all linked together.  Each field in everyone of these 4 tables has a common Dept Code (this is their link to each other).

Also in each of these fields is a field Associated Program.  At times we may need to edit the data in the Associated Program field.

If we do this I would like that update to appear in all the other tables as well.

I thought if I linked them this would be the case.  But they are linked on the dept code?  How can I create something that would update this other field in each of these tables.

Thank you, hope this makes sense.

Hey @nhudson,

I might be missing some context. In fact, you might want to share some screenshots of your data schema/structure and further details.

However, I have a feeling that what you are looking for show probably be achieved by using Airtable Lookup fields

If you need some help setting this up, just feel free to grab a slot using this link and I’d be happy to show you around.

Completely different matter, but would love to have you join our Airtable Hackathon! Make sure to sign up!!

Yes, I just came here to reiterate what @Mike_AutomaticN said above, which is that you will want to use linked records and lookup fields.

I discuss linked record fields and lookup fields at length in my free Airtable training course, which you can take for free by signing up for a free 30-day trial with LinkedIn Learning.

Note that the course is very outdated because it was created many years ago using one of the very earliest versions of Airtable.

However, the core concepts of building a base remain the same to this day — such as working with linked record fields and lookup fields.

Hope this helps!
