Using Airtable as an operational layer alongside Shopify for an online embroidery company

We’re an embroidery company and We’ve been working on relaunching our website on Shopify and we were planning on using a third party warehouse management system but we’ve had a dreadful time with the supplier and we’ve decided to scrap that project as its delaying launching our website (already three months late)

For at least this year, we’re looking to use Airtable as our operations system and set up with a two-way sync with Shopify.

Has anyone used Airtable as a :

  • lightweight WMS / production workflow layer alongside Shopify?

  • Has anyone managed production workflows (e.g. batching, manufacturing, customisation) in Airtable?

Basically  we’ll

  • Use Shopify for:
    • storefronts (each school has its own store)
    • orders + payments
  • Use Airtable as our operational system, to manage:
    • order lines (each item in an order)
    • supplier ordering
    • goods received
    • embroidery workflow (including batching by logo)
    • dispatch tracking

@MAK432

You may want to check out Shopify AirPower for syncing between Shopify and Airtable.

Alternatively, you can setup your own syncs between Shopify and Airtable by using Make’s Shopify integrations in conjunction with Kake’s Airtable integrations,

If you’ve never used Make before, I’ve assembled a bunch of Make training resources in this thread. For example, here is one of the ways that you can instantly trigger a Make automation from Airtable.

Hope this helps!

Yeap!  Using Airtable to create new Products / Variants and syncing it to Shopify via AirPower, and also using Airtable in a separate workflow to handle order processing to do reseller payments

For the goods received / dispatch tracking bit, sort of?  After we create the Products / Variants in Airtable and Shopify, we then create POs on ShipHero automatically for them and then sync that data back down into Airtable so we know the shipping status / how much was actually received

If you could talk a bit about your supplier ordering and embroidery workflow bits that’d be interesting!  For the supplier ordering, you could probably hook up an automatic email thing to get sent to your supplier with all the details of your purchase, or if you need to send out an actual request you could use automations to put a PDF together and have it automatically email it to the supplier too

I do free half hour calls and would be happy to brainstorm a bit if you’d like (I’m especially interested to hear more about the embroidery stuff), and you can schedule a time here!
