Hi there!

I have an automation currently setup in Airtable that sends a slack anytime a tag is updated when an order comes through our system. The automation sends the customer name and total in the order and a link to the image. I am trying to find a way for it to send an actual attachment of the image, as currently I have an employee going in and manually sending it. This is what Airtable support said below. And attached is an image of what the automation looks like.

Let me know if anyone can help guide me through this. Thanks!

“As a workaround, this could be achieved by setting up a custom script in your automation that uploads the file directly to Slack. That path does require some scripting knowledge and familiarity with Slack’s API.

If that’s of interest, you might consider reaching out to our community or one of our Airtable Partners for help with implementation.”

Hi @destirabray,

Unfortunately, it is not possible to use Airtable’s automations to upload images to Slack, because Airtable’s automations don’t support that particular Slack feature.

Your best bet for accomplishing this — that doesn’t require writing any custom programming code — is to use Make’s Slack integrations combined with Make’s Airtable integrations.

Below is a screenshot of one way that you could set this up, but there are an endless number of ways to set this up.

If you’ve never used Make before, it can take a few days to learn, so I’ve assembled a bunch of Make training resources in this thread.

For example, here is one of the ways that you could instantly trigger a Make automation from Airtable. You’ll notice that my screenshot below begins with a “custom webhook” module, which is how I instantly trigger this automation from Airtable.

I also give live demonstrations of how to use Make in many of my Airtable podcast appearances. For example, in this video, I show how to work with Airtable arrays in Make. You probably won’t need anything that advanced for your Slack automation, though.

Hope this helps!
