Update record with Jotform integration

Jotform integration can only add new records to Airtable; it can’t update a record, correct? I have a table with a couple of hundred records (name, email, etc.) and want to send out a Jotform survey to everyone that will automatically populate each record with their answers. This is currently impossible without some third-party go-between, as far as I know. Is this not a basic function of databases, being able to update the records? If I can create a simple three-step solution in Zapier to update records from Jotform submissions instead of adding new ones is there any reason Airtable can’t do this natively? I could do it in Filemaker thirty years ago.

Airtable very much as all the database functionalities like create, read, update and delete (CRUD operations) which are also exposed through API.

You need to ask Jotform to provide you the update operation natively as they are the ones sending data to Airtable. It seems that they only have created a native integration for creating new records - which must be the widely used use case.

You are able to do it using Zapier because Airtable exposes update API too. So its the jotform’s community where you need to raise this :)

You’re probably already aware of this, but if you’re open to another tool Fillout handles Airtable record updates via form submissions: https://www.fillout.com/

@jere7my

As you mentioned in your original post above, there is no way to natively update an Airtable record with JotForm. You would either need to use Zapier or Make.

You also mentioned Zapier in your message above, but I would STRONGLY recommend against using Zapier.

Make is INFINITELY more powerful & customizable than Zapier, yet it is SIGNIFICANTLY CHEAPER than Zapier.

I wrote an entire post here comparing Make vs. Zapier, and if you’ve never used Make before, I’ve assembled a bunch of Make training resources in this thread.

However, if you really want to make a power move with your Airtable bases, almost everybody in this community has moved away from JotForm to Fillout's advanced forms for Airtable.

That’s because Fillout is 100% free, it natively communicates with Airtable, and it natively allows you to update Airtable records directly through a form.

Fillout also offers hundreds of features that Airtable’s native forms don’t offer, including the ability to:

I show how to use a few of the advanced features of Fillout on these 2 Airtable podcast episodes:
