I created an interface designer page of the type “list” and it show perfectly  on the desktop client. In this list there is only 1 field (= primary key field), about 30 characters wide. But on my iPhone, the field gets truncated, showing only the first 25 of it, following by 3 little points (...), although there is a lot more space ( I estimate around twice as much). Is there something I can do to prevent this truncation  ? Or is this a standard behavior of the mobile interface designer ?

Yes, this is how their UI has been designed for mobile. Can’t do much about it.

Unfortunately, Airtable doesn’t put too many resources into their mobile app experience.

They primarily consider themselves to be a desktop-first company, with mobile as a much lower priority.

You could send screenshots of this problem to support@airtable.com, and hopefully they’ll improve it in the future.

In the meantime, if you wanted to create a better mobile experience, you would need to pay extra money to build your own custom mobile interface by using a 3rd-party portal app.

Some of the most popular portals that are currently available for Airtable are: Noloco, JetAdmin, Softr, Pory, and Glide.

Thank you for these suggestions.

Hey @Michel_Billiau what is the exact use case for you list view, and how should the end user be able to interact with such list and records?

Airtable mobile experience is pretty clunky. I’m wondering whether we might find a workaround for it without having to build a full front end/portal in Softr etc.

@Mike_AutomaticN brings up a good point.

For example, if you just need to see a list of records and then edit the contents of those records, you could just create a list interface page that you share publicly.

A list interface page should display properly in your mobile web browser, so that would solve your problem of viewing your records on your iPhone!

However, the issue with publicly-shared interfaces is that Airtable doesn’t allow you to edit any of the records.

But this is easily solved by you simply adding a button field that opens up any particular record in Fillout, which is 100% free and lets you update Airtable records using a form.

So then, you get the best of all worlds:

  1. You get the ability to view all of your records on a mobile phone.
  2. You get to edit the records on your mobile phone.
  3. You don’t need to pay additional money for any external services.
  4. You don’t need to create your own custom interfaces using an unfamiliar 3rd-party app.

Hope this helps! If you’d like to hire the best Airtable consultant to help you with anything Airtable-related, please feel free to contact me through my website: Airtable consultant — ScottWorld

Thank you for the suggestions, but I want to keep it as simple as possible, without any other tools (free or chargeable). The one simple thing I need is a one-page (mobile) statistical data, with targets obtained in several categories, and numbers en percentages. Therefore I created already a separate table with rollup fields, so I get all the numbers and percentages in the categories. On desktop I have what I need. The only thing I want now, is to display this on mobile on 1 screen, no scrolling. And there is even no need to edit these records, so display only is really fine. In my opinion this should be  no rocket science...

But a list interface page, as I mentioned,  the content of the field gets truncated, even if there is still a lot of space on the screen. I think I will redesign the list interface and split up the information in 2 fields, so that they don’t get truncated… this will be the closest I can get, but that’s OK

Secondly a list view is currently not supported on iOS.

A lastly, a basic grid view doesn’t truncate the contents, but the height of the records is far too high, even when set on small, allowing for only 7 records on 1 screen. I need preferable 12 which fits perfectly on 1 screen in a list interface page.

I guess I’ll have to live with the fact, as already described in the comments above, that Airtable mobile client doesn’t get the high priority in developing robust features...
