How to make an interface button toggle a checkbox?

Why not update the record to uncheck the box as the final step after the automation (triggered by it being checked) finishes running? This way, when a user or another automation checks it again, it will trigger again.

An easy workaround, thanks ​@coderkid! There are however some problems with that approach. First, this way the user will not see the buttons updated label (e.g. “Successful re-run”), since it will revert back to the checkbox’s initial status instantly. Since the process is so fast, the user may miss that something actually happens, and will click again :). Second, it eats up automation steps, may need to place it in several places in conditional groups. Third, I there may be other situations when a toggling function would be useful, where this approach will not work.

So, it can maybe make do, but I’d really like to find a way to make a button toggle.

If that's the case, you might consider using a date field instead of a checkbox.

Trigger the automation when the date changes, and use a button to set the field to NOW(). That way, users can clearly see the last run time, and if the field is empty, it means it hasn't been run yet.

​@coderkid I don’t see how to set the button action to NOW(). I can only select a date or “Today”, but that will also convert to a hard coded date. What am I missing?

Where is this button? Is it in Data, in one of the fields, or in Interface? If it’s in a table, you need to install the Scripting extension and set the field value to Date.now(). If it’s in the interface, you need to write an automation to set it to Date.now() in Javascript.
