Interface Column Width Issues

I’m working on an interface page with the list template. One of the fields I’m trying to display in the list is date. I noticed the field had more margin than it needed so I looked for a divider and found what looked like a divider to drag it over to make it more narrow but when I clicked it actually added more width, I tried a gain and it added even more width where the date is now the only visible field and I have to scroll over just to see the other fields in my list. I can’t seem to find any way to make it shorter or even just go back to it’s original width. Could someone please help explain what I’m doing wrong and the correct way to adjust field width in the list interface template?

Hi David! This is a known quirk with the list layout in Interfaces — the column dividers can be a bit finicky.

To fix it, try this:

  1. Go back to the Interface Designer (edit mode).
  2. Hover over the field header area in your list element until you see the column border/divider.
  3. Click and drag left slowly — it should let you resize it back down. The trick is to grab the exact edge of the column border, not the space next to it.

If that still won't cooperate, a quick workaround: remove the date field from the list element entirely, then re-add it. It should come back at its default width, and you can resize from there.

Also worth noting — if you're on a smaller screen or zoomed in, the drag behavior can feel off. Try zooming out to 80-90% in your browser before adjusting widths; it gives you more control.

Hope that helps!

Hm, that’s a weird one, can’t say I’ve ever seen that happen before.  Here’s how it looks when I resize the column widths:

Hey @David_A_Phillips,

This seems like some kind of bug. If it persists you might want to email support@airtable.com (and make sure to requesta a human response). Having said that, I’d still love to give it a shot on my side/together on a quick 5 min call to see what is really going on. Feel free to grab a slot using this link.

Completely different matter, but would love to have you join the March 2026 AT Community led Hackathon! Make sure to sign up!!
