New Launch button instead of Publish causes problems
I can’t believe I couldn’t find an entry about this in this forum yet. Hmm ok, here’s my problem:
Every time I open Interfaces it goes straight into the editor and I have to click launch to use it. For me (main administrator and builder) it is annoying but works.
Now my user back from holiday wanted to access and couldn’t. It gives a message that says to click on launch or ask the owner. No launch button though. I opened the interface on my side, had to click launch again did so and she could get in.
This obviously is quite an annoying and NOT acceptable behavior.
I have no idea where and how to change this behavior?
Please help

I totally agree with you that this is 100% unacceptable behavior.
My clients and I have been complaining to Airtable about this for 3 months now, and unfortunately, they are very insistent on NOT fixing this behavior.
This is obviously a huge dealbreaker for my clients, and a few of them are considering leaving Airtable because of this.
I don’t think I’m having that issue on my side. (Yes the edit mode when clicking on Interfaces is a pain) On my side, I have the Launch button on the base itself. If I click it from the base (data layer) I am re-directed to the published version. Am I missing smth?
In any case, following Scott’s instructions above (email and form) is probably the best thing to do.
Yeah, the issue only happens when going from the Data layer to the Interfaces layer, which is how my clients are getting to interfaces most of the time.
Mhmmm yes. That is an issue. However, if I click “launch” rather than “Interfaces” I get redirected straight into published mode. Is that not your case?
I don’t have a launch button — where do you see this? Maybe this is a new feature that they’re rolling out slowly to users as a very bizarre way of “fixing” this problem.
Hey @ScottWorld!
Top right corner. I’m feeling lucky, I almost never get within the initial roll outs
Ha, looks like you are very lucky, because it looks like you are in the initial rollout!
Thanks for the screenshot! I definitely don’t have that launch button in any of my bases, and I have never seen that button in any of my clients’ bases either.
This has got to be the most ridiculous & nonsensical way for Airtable to supposedly “fix” this problem. They added an entirely separate button, instead of just making the word “Interfaces” work properly? ♂️♂️
Yep, this totally matches my entire experience of working with Airtable.
Lol. In the same way the new UI was shocking at first, but I became a big supporter of it pretty fast, I think I’m enjoying the interfaces vs launch experience already.
If I want to build, I click on interfaces. If I want to launch, I click on launch!
Mike
We’ll see if I feel the same way — once I get the “launch” button!
Interesting, sounds like this is a rollout issue for @Bettina_Horvat1 in that you got the launch button but your user didn’t (at least initially). I got this a couple weeks ago, interesting where slow rollouts happen vs all at once. The slow rollout must account for why it hasn’t been touched on much in the community forum.
I don’t hate the Launch button, though I find it a bit silly to have to add a new button (and at this point I’d advocate renaming “Interfaces” at the top to something that implies editing). I do still get very frustrated with the home screen compacting the Interfaces and Data Layers into one button because I end up accidently clicking into an interface when I wanted the Data layer quite often.
