web interface for music festival

I have been working with a free music festival for several years. I’m wondering about using an airtable interface to display our musicians on our publicly facing website and would appreciate any thoughts about that. Wellfleetporchfest.org

The festivals data is all on Airtable and our website is on Squarespace. We have 60 bands participating at 30 venues. All of this is sorted out and tracked in Airtable. We display bands, with all their publicly relevant data in blog posts on Squarespace. This looks nice, but its a lotta manual data entry every year for an all volunteer crew since there is no way to import data to the blog component.

I’ve started to look the the interface option in Airtable and its pretty flexible, but I’m on a free plan and cant see how it actually works - we run this show on a shoe string. Is an interface really embedable? Would  this be a better option for us?

This is pretty straightforward. And yes! Airtable itnerfaces are embedable (docuemntation here: https://support.airtable.com/articles/6973404921-embedding-airtable-views-and-bases)

Hm, I take it you’ve already tried using an embedded View (available on the free plan) and didn’t like how it looked?  

In that case, yeap, on a Business plan ($54 /mth) you can embed an Interface: https://support.airtable.com/articles/4255096925-managing-and-sharing-airtable-interfaces

One thing to note is that SEO for embedded items can be unreliable and I wouldn’t count on data in the embed showing up on Google.  If that’s important to you, I’d suggest creating a blog post that lists basic information about the band / dates so that it can get indexed!

    I love using Airtable embeds for stuff, it saves me so much time compared to using website CMS tools. One of my common uses is for calendars. You can see an example here, which has the embed and a Fillout form on the same page, so anyone can submit a calendar suggestion and all I have to do is flip a single select in Airtable to publish it. We use a pretty simple gallery one here too. Couple thoughts tho…

    • ​@TheTimeSavingCo is right to shout out potential SEO issues, so if you’re reliant on your site to drive attendance via search discoverability, this might not be the right road to go down (then again, Google seems intent on committing seppuku with Search, so maybe it doesn’t matter?)
    • In my experience no matter how optimized your site or fast your internet, it will lag with a white screen for 1-2 sec as the iFrame loads
    • I’d definitely say it’s less ideal for mobile users. The embed does work on mobile, but no matter how responsive your site design it gets a little funny. If you run traffic metrics, maybe look at your desktop/mobile splits before deciding.

    The other alternative to explore is figuring out some kind of automation that populates SQS blog posts via the data. I looked at Make.com and it seems like all the inbuilt automations for SQS there are for store functions, but I’ve got to imagine there’s a way...
