Am I missing something? Tell me there is a secret. Right now the Interfaces can show the record’s Activity Feed but not the Revision History ? The only place I can show it is if I use the side panel to open a linked record, those you can have the revision history at the bottom but that is it!! As far as I know.

Are you talking about a specific interface layout? I am using a record review layout for most of my interfaces and I can easily access the revision history. It’s a side panel still, but it’s not hard to access.

@AcDemas you are using a default interface option that appears hard coded as one of the only places you can see it, but the option to show revision history is not available the custom interfaces and I use mostly custom Interfaces so it’s lame. Unless I am  missing something.

you’re not missing anything! depending on the interface layout you’re using, most allow for some version of clicking into the record to view details, whether that’s through a linked record or the “main” record itself. when the record detail pane opens (in edit mode), you can toggle comments & revision history on/off in record detail settings > user actions:

This is a product limitation the Airtable currently has, you are not missing anything.

Interfaces can only display the Activity Feed, Revision History is treated differently and only accessible from base record view or certain linked-record side panels.  Revision History has not been made an embeddable Interface element yet.

There are a few workarounds that people use:

-Add a button that opens the record in the base allowing users to view the full history

-Use Activity Feed when you just need a general audit trail

-Some teams log changes into separate tables via automations

Many people want this and is a frequent feature request.  You should submit feedback to Airtable and let them know that it is important for you.

@anthonyXRay @AcDemas @bredah  So here’s the reality. The only side panel that shows the Revision History is the New Layout, the legacy layout, which is much better imo (I think 4 columns vs 3), does not have the Revision History options, that’s it. Why they went to the trouble add it to the new side panel layout but not to the main interface layout is beyond me. 🤯

I’m a little confused by some of the responses here:

  • “New” detail pages can show “Revision History” and/or “Comment History”. “Activity Feed” is just the name for when you’re showing both at the same time.
    • The revision history only shows for fields added to the page, a logical security measure to not expose data the end user isn’t supposed to see.
  • “New” side sheets can have 4+ columns if you just make the sidesheet wider (not necessarily full screen, use the drag handle to widen the whole layout)

@Kamille_Parks11

First the point of my Post is to find a way to add Revision History to the main Interface Pages, do you know of any?

I will clarify but let’s get on the same page here, apparently it’s called a Side Sheet and  both do go to 4 columns, however:

The Legacy Side Sheet AND the main Interface page do not have any way to show the Revision History, The only option is to add an Element called Record Comments which is an Activity Feed of Comments only not any Revisions

The legacy Side Sheet was/is only edited by the same Interface +Add Element function as the main Interface Pages. The “new” Side Sheet uses a whole new method to add fields, which is super annoying, but it also added 2 toggle switches to show Comments and/or Revision History  at the bottom of the Side Sheet where you can then select to show different feeds or “All Activity” and yes it only show the revisions of fields added to the Side Sheet.

Am I missing anything?

You already have all your potential options outlined. In both legacy and normal interfaces you can only see comments/revision history when a specific record is selected, which is why full page visualizations don’t have it but side sheets, full width detail pages, and record review do.

First of all, that is a design flaw. I was asking for help to see if it was possible, not get a lesson on why it can’t be done.

Even then,  since I actually can  select a specific record on all of my custom interfaces or “ full page visualizations”  why can’t I get to show the Revision History then?

Sounds like the advice are you offering me is to “ live with it”?

Two people already told you it couldn’t be done. They are correct. I’m agreeing with “the answer is no” and adding context as to why since just hearing “you can’t do it” didn’t seem to satisfy you.

Standard non-detail pages are fundamentally incompatible with showing revision history. Airtable is not likely to change this.

Since interface extensions are still in beta you can try making a product enhancement request to add a “revision history” component to the SDK.

Othwerwise, yes, the answer is to live with it lol
