Legacy Product Ideas

This is my top feature wish for Airtable. An “anybody can edit” option when sharing a view. See mock-up image. There a so many use cases for this. I do a lot of videos with our lectures at the university and often I need them to provide me with materiale, comments and feedback to a lot of content. I use Airtable to manage it but I always have to have them writing stuff in an email. I could just send them a view that they could edit they could easily change titles, upload files, give comments or check todos. It would also be very useful in class for learning activities with students. Like a brainstorm.

Keeping a log of the magazines that I read, and it would be nice if we could format the date to exclude the day in a “YYYY-MM” format. So the “January 2019 issue” could be read in that format or a user selectable “2019-01” or “01/2019”. My current workaround is just use the 1st day of the month, meaning “2019-01-01” and I just visually ignore the day part. Some people might also just want the year, but I guess that could be done with single select or single line text. Thanks.

It would be useful to be able to use a whole column as an array to use for Numeric functions. For example I could use a formula that shows how much variance there was in a number field from the Average, Max or Min of that field.Basically it would be the same functionality that is in the Summary Bar, but available in functions.

Hey there Airtable fans. Something I’ve come across, and I’m sure many of you have is when using Airtable, there’s this whole line, which creates a new record whenever clicked.! Screenshot 2020-01-06 at 11.09.29|690x30 I wonder what everyone’s thoughts on the usefulness of this functionality being extended across the entire row. Screenshot 2020-01-06 at 11.09.29|690x32 So, instead of the entire row, when clicked, creating a new record - Limit it to just the + sign? This would make Airtable easier to use, at least for me, who spends a good portion of his time typing ⌘+z to undo last action of creating a record accidentally.

We’d love a new block that enabled people to up-vote records. This block could be used to track ideas and requests. We use an Airtable form to collect ideas and requests and the ability to “+1” a previously requested entry would be incredibly valuable!

Hi, It would be really nice if I could have a 3rd field shown at the intersection of these two others. For instance, the countertop in the powder room is called “Topus Concrete”. Instead of a number, I would like if that name could be displayed instead of the quantity. I know you can click on the numbers to see all the records that it’s referencing, but in terms of printing this out and having it handy, the name would be far more useful.

I have a base that has multiple tables with different kinds of items (RFIs, Submittals, To Do list, Change Orders) and I want the main tab to have a list of only the open items from each category. How would one go about doing this?

I would love to have a place where I can manage all the files that are attached to my base. Similarly, I could then attach the same document/image to multiple records without having to re-upload every time.

It would be extremely beneficial if we had the ability to paste a word into a column of linked cells and instead of overwriting the column with that single word, the ability to add that word to the existing links within that columns records. this could apply to a clipboard of multiple linked items or words Suggested UI: right click paste (overwrite) and secondary options right click paste (add to) Potential challenge 1 If you paste a group of linked items and one or more linked items already exists in the cell. How would that work? Suggestion: Don’t allow it to, unless they are all exact match or unique (not a combination). Potential challenge 2 If you paste a word from outside AirTable into the cell with the same word that already exists, do you combine or create a new record? Suggestion: a) pop up asking to combine or create new record or just always combine. Universal suggestion to fix both above challenges: only allow (merge) pasting

It would be great to have the ability NOT to be forced to select a uniform level of decimal precision for a Numbers Field, and instead just retain the numbers exactly as entered. I appreciate the option to force a particular level of precision in some instances, but in many situations it would be much more convenient, not to mention more accurate, if the decimal precision was not standardized for an entire field. This is particularly important when the data needs to be used for formula calculations. While it is possible to record numbers accurately as text in a Single Line Text field, it quickly becomes a convoluted and error-prone process to convert them back and forth to number formats for use in calculations while also retaining the appropriate level of data precision for each record. Hi I have a table with projects and a linked table with tasks. The projects are usually linked with multiple tasks. Now when I group my projects by tasks, it does not group by each individual task, instead it groups by every list of tasks one project has. This is very cumbersome. It looks like this: Group 1: “task1, task4” Group 2: “task1, task2, task3, task4” Group 3: “task2, task3, task4” Group 4: “task3, task4”

Hey there. I have experienced an issue recently whereby we have 30+ users of Airtable, and users are coming in and changing the base color. This was fine when we were a small team, or when we only used one base, but as we grow, this is becoming a serious problem. Is it possible to lock the color so it’s not editableOrIs it possible for everyone to give a base their own color scheme? Either works - It just gets messy when everyone can edit - Especially because color has such a huge impact on context, and that’s one of the many benefits of Airtable.

Feature request unless there is a way to accomplish this already that I am missing (other than creating 15 fields which gets very noisy) In building a database to track numerous testing events would like to keep track of the required instrumentation to accomplish that test. The instrumentation has the attributes of: type, number required, and required sample rate. The types of available instrumentation are fixed, but the number & sample rate could be anything depending on the test. So right now I have a multi-select that looks like this: and a notes field after it where people can further elaborate. It would be nice to force people into entering information consistently, so in a perfect world I would have a single field where the muliti-select options can be selected and then if picked, sub fields would open up in which to input the sub-attributes. It would be great to jump straight from Page Designer into an email with the page attached, whether that would be handled internally, or by Outlook, etc… (also with ability to pull email from a field would be a bonus!) Currently, we have to hit the Print button, then Print To PDF, then name and save the PDF, then go to email, then compose a message, then type in email address, then hit attachment, then browse to the folder where it was saved, and then attach it… and I have to do this on many in a row! Ug!

Hi, I love the product - looks so great and I’m already seen great use for it in many aspects of my and my clients working context. One fo the aspects I like is that the tool doesn’t dictate much about HOW I need to work - it stays out of my way and let me do my stuff. Thanks for that approach. I would love to have the possibility to set a limit of the number of items that are in a kanban stack. A board cannot really be called a kanban board if you cannot limit work in process somehow (wrote about it here) But following your wonderful principle as described above. So the easiest (and best) thing would be to have a limit to set per stack and once it’s reached simply change the background color of the stack (red or customizable). I work in a company that manufactures building materials. I am looking to build a data base where I can upload all certifications for our products. Certifications vary per product, industry, application and other. This data base would be a key support to our sales rep, where they can access this information at the time they are selling material for a project. I am looking to build a function where sales rep can easily search and filter any category and any keyword to see a consolidated list of relevant products and information important for them at the time. I am looking to understand on how to get started Thank you

We use our base to store information on our jobs for our company (including billing & payroll data) and would be nice to either remove the “Duplicate record” option or be able to choose specific fields to duplicate. The “Duplicate record” option would be EXTREMELY useful to us if i can control the information duplicated, otherwise it can be a nightmare. Couple things I am afraid of: One of our admin choosing to duplicate an old record similar to a new record, but not editing the necessary information, therefore over billing our client and over paying our employee. One of our admin choosing to duplicate an old record similar new record, however that would trigger various unwanted ZAP’s dependent on state of the record. Thanks.

Agree with Sandra_Michaelis - the ability to connect bases would save lots of time and eliminate duplicate effort.

I see hundreds of users requesting HIPAA compliance going years back. Is that going to be a implemented anytime soon?

It looks like there is still no real solution to this. The closest workaround is to try copy/pasting from one base to another, but there is no real option for copying a table to another base. The closest proxy seems to be downloading a CSV of a table and then importing it to another base.

Would be nice to have duplicate record option in iOS app.Also would be nice if you can set only specific columns to duplicate. We have automations set by single select drop down actions and when we duplicate a record would be nice to not have it duplicate the action automatically. Hope that makes sense
