Change Single/Multi Select Field Types without previewing options

In the Data pane, if I have a Single Select or Multi Select field that I'd like to change to Single Line of Text, I have to wait until my browser loads all the options in the field (sometimes thousands). Having a way to change the data type of the field without going into the field would be very helpful and save process time in editing tables.
