It would be nice if when creating new fields – especially when the fields have fixed-length content – for Airtable to default the field width to the size of the content contained in such. For example, if you create a single select field, default the field width to either the width of the longest selection option or the field label itself (whichever is longer). This would save the need to constantly resize each new field.

For bonus points, allow users to doubleclick the area between column headers to expand the field to fit the contained text whenever users want as they can currently do in Excel and other spreadsheet applications.

Set sized field widths becomes especially important when using Shared Views and embedding tables into websites.

We're needing both Auto-sized and set sized fields within a Grid View. Further to set field widths, it would be amazing if a Grid View would also allow for Field Labels to be applied, similar to how a Form View allows for field names to be overlaid by a Field Label. It's annoying to have convoluted Field Names that have been crafted for base schema, but not necessarily user-friendly, for those consuming the data within the embed view.

Hi there!

At miniExtensions, we've created a third-party portal that integrates seamlessly with Airtable, offering you greater control over the grid’s appearance. Our grid view allows you to customize the row height, helping you display your data in a way that best suits your needs.
