When setting permissions at a table level, it'd be great if there was the option to set permissions on who can duplicate records (and even apply templates, expand records, etc), because there are instances where you don't want records to be duplicated. For example, SKU and barcodes on products; or if a record has an integration with an API and we push our UUID for the record back to Airtable. I've attached screenshots of what I mean. This feature would be great on both the data layer and in interfaces.

Creating and duplicating records are considered the same from a permissions standpoint.

If you disable creation of records, then duplication is automatically disabled as well.

However, if you want someone to create records without the ability to duplicate records, this is already available in Airtable.

You would just disable creation of records, but allow creation of records through a form.

Hope this helps! If you’d like to hire the best Airtable consultant to help you with anything Airtable-related, please feel free to contact me through my website: Airtable consultant — ScottWorld

I think it is unlikely that you will get this level of granularity in the data layer. If you have multiple people that cannot be trained to not create duplicate records, I recommend giving them only interface access.

As Scott mentioned, you could disable direction creation of records, but still allow creation of records through a form.

Another option is to disable direct creation of records, but allow automations to create records. Then you can add a button to an interface page that runs the automation that creates the new record.
