Triggering back gesture in Chrome (on MacOS) when scrolling to the left

I had a similar issue using google sheets. And i tested it on Airtable just now. I closed all my browsers and then re-opened the sheet. Scrolled over the grid and it scrolls left-to-right just fine. Scrolled over the menu/tab area and it navigates back a page. Once you scroll over the grid again, it continues to navigate back a page. i closed and re-opened the page and scrolled over the grid and it worked again.

i know this isn’t really helpful for those who truly do wish to navigate back a page and also be able to scroll within a table/sheet but hopefully knowing what could trigger it may be helpful to you.

In which views are you running into this issue (grid, gallery, kanban)?

I am noticing this happens n my MacBook trackpad as well as my Magic Mouse. We are thinking of getting an enterprise account but this may be a dealbreaker for us.

This is happening to me out of the blue as well. Appears to be some sort of bug. Once logged in, everything works fine for about 5-10 min then all of a sudden I can’t scroll left using the double finger trackpad motion without triggering it to go back to the previous page. I have very wide spreadsheets and this is super irritating because I need to be able to scroll left! I changed the settings on my computer to prevent this and it’s STILL happening. I have to log out, close the window, then log back in for it to go back to normal, but again this only works for a few min. AirTable PLEASE FIX THIS! I will have to stop using your product and go back to regular spreadsheets or googlesheets if this continues as I can’t get any work done having to log in and out every 5 min.

I’m having the same issue. I’m concerned my team will reject using this product if the browser keeps trying to go back a page.

I’m having the same issue. Has there been a fix for this? Started happening out of the blue a few days ago.

Am I reading this correctly, that this issue has been going on since 2017!? This is wild, it’s 2022 and we’re still having the same issue.

same issue happening to me. this seems to be the bug I notice as well. Seems to be a chrome issue after. abit of searching, and not sure why it would happen on the magic mouse only. obviously if i turn off the back gesure scroll works but I’ve become accustomed to it. I wonder if there’s another way to get the mouse to go back. Could be a bug in how iOS detects whether horizontal scroll is available to use or not as well

I went into System Preferences, Trackpad/Mouse, More Gestures, and changes my two-finger swipe settings to solve this. Not great when you want to actually swipe with two fingers to go back a page, but better than doing it every 5 minutes on Airtable!

I have a solution (MacBookPro):

Go to Systems

Trackpad

More Gestures

Swipe between pages - Turn "Off"

Voila

Hey everyone! Thanks for sharing your experience about this issue in this thread.

Our engineering team has investigated this in the past, and they have concluded that this issue is not one that is unique or localized to Airtable but is most likely either an issue with Chrome on MacOS, and/or your trackpad settings are causing sideway scroll attempts to trigger a "back" response by your browser. They have recommended that when you run into the problem, to exit chrome and reopen it or update your trackpad settings. Alternatively, you could try using the Airtable app for MacOS, this may be able to get around the problem.

We've also tested to see if the issue occurs in Firefox for Mac, and so far haven't run into the issue, so it may be worthwhile to try. Hope this helps!
