Hi everyone,

I’d like to know if, on the Business plan, there is any way for a user on the Free plan to update or modify a field in a base without incurring additional charges.

Is this possible through automations or any other workaround?

Thanks in advance!

Airtable has a guide on how to do this with forms here: https://support.airtable.com/docs/updating-records-using-a-form-in-airtable

Easier to just use Fillout for this though, has 1k submissions (record edits, in this context) on the free plan: https://www.fillout.com/

We are on the Business plan, and we've had a similar request before. As far as I know, there's no loophole to achieve this, Airtable intentionally ties editing access to paid seats.

There are only two workarounds:

  1. Using forms: Airtable forms are nonbillable, and users don't need an account. However, forms are designed for creating records, not editing them. You can “hack” updates using prefilled forms and automation but it's clunky and not truly dynamic.
  2. Using an external tool: Connecting Airtable to a 3rd party tool via API that allows users to update data without being added as collaborators.

Let me know if you'd like me to explain either option in more detail.

@brunofbrsilva

It is typically not recommended to attempt this in Airtable, for a variety of technical reasons.

As Adam mentioned above, your #1 best bet for this is to use Fillout’s advanced forms for Airtable.

Fillout is 100% free, and it offers hundreds of features that Airtable’s native forms don’t offer, including the ability to update Airtable records using a form.

I show how to set this up on this Airtable podcast episode:

Additionally, Fillout also offers the ability to:
