I might just be silly, but is there not a way to copy and paste a status across several records in list view? In grid view it’s easy, just copy a cell and paste. Is there not an easy and quick way to do this in list view?

Nope, unfortunately that is not possible (no drag and drop either).
However, you can have both views shown on your interface and jump from one to the other depending on your specific need. -see image below.
