Getting XML files from RSS feeds for XML Block

I’ve searched the Community and the web to find an answer to what might be a too-obvious question:

How do I get the XML file from a public RSS feed?

Then, assuming I have successfully imported the XML file, would the XML Block then auto-import new items from the feed?

Is the purpose of the XML Block to act as a kind of feed reader (which is what I’m hoping it does)?

Any help would be much appreciated!
