Isolation of Data

Any way to Isolate or hide data in the base via access or other means?

If I create an inteface with linked data from another base, will the base data be visible by those who have base access?

This is relevant when attempting to report on the status of legal work where the repoting dashboard interface needs the metrics however not everyone needs to have access to the back-end data related to the specific cases.

I hope I am explaining this so it’s understandable.

You can only hide data at the interface level, so you would need to give your users interface-only access instead of base access.

First, you would need to remove those users from the base by unsharing the entire base with them. You can do this by clicking on the “Share” button at the Data layer.

Then, you would need to share the interfaces with them that you want them to have access to. You can do this by clicking on the “Share Interface” button at the Interface layer.

Even though all of the “share” buttons throughout Airtable look similar, they actually function completely differently, so it can be very confusing.

Hope this helps!

If you have a budget and you’d like to hire the best Airtable consultant to help you with this or anything else that is Airtable-related, please feel free to contact me through my website: Airtable consultant — ScottWorld

Yeah, as long as your users only have Interface access and not Base access you’re good to go.  This’ll let you create pages in the Interface that show the specific data you want them to see, and you’ll be able to share the Interface only (without sharing the Base) with the ‘Share interface’ button:

Hm not sure I understand this one, sorry!  If they have base access they’ll be able to see the synced tables, yeah.  If you’re using the data from those synced tables in your Interface and they only have Interface access then you’ll be fine

If you’re open to using a third-party tool for this you could also check out the miniExtensions Portal. It would allow you to give users exactly the access that they require, without giving them any access to Airtable at all so you can very easily hide any data they’re not supposed to see.
