This might be a silly question, but is there some way to link records to the same table, so that (as with other links) if we add a link to row A on row B, row B automatically gets an entry referencing row A?

Nope. As you probably found out, you can add the link, but it won’t add the extra ‘linked in’ field to the parent record.
This is a great question! As @Tuur noted, we don’t currently support this behavior; you will need to manually link Record B to Record A.
