is this product overkill if all i want is to create and share monthly an org chart and employee directory with emp images?

It works great for creating the org chart, and for sharing it on the web — so if that’s what you’re wanting to do, the price point for comparison is $24/mo ($20/mo if paid annually). However, unlike many dedicated “org chart” applications I’ve seen, there are a lot of other things you can do with Airtable for your $24/mo (in addition to maintaining your org chart).
I qualified the usefulness of the org chart tool above because Airtable still has not implemented a good way to export your org chart to some other format (like pdf) or to print your org chart. If you need to do either of those things, Airtable is not (yet) a great choice.
