Please Bring Back the New Search Filtering Behavior

Today, I briefly noticed what seemed to be a new search experience in Airtable, and it was a huge improvement.

When I searched for a text value, Airtable not only highlighted the matching text within records, but it also automatically filtered the view to display only the records that contained the search term.

This made searching dramatically faster and more intuitive. Instead of scrolling through hundreds or thousands of records with highlighted matches, I could immediately focus on only the relevant records.

Unfortunately, the feature disappeared again after a short time.

If this was an experiment or a feature rollout, I would strongly encourage the Airtable team to bring it back. It significantly improves usability, especially for larger bases where finding information quickly is essential.

Why this behavior is better:

  • It reduces visual clutter by showing only matching records.
  • It saves time by eliminating unnecessary scrolling.
  • It makes search behave more like users expect from modern applications.
  • It improves productivity when working with large datasets.

I really hope this wasn't removed permanently. If anyone else saw this feature and found it useful, please add your support here. I'd love to see Airtable make this the default search behavior—or at least offer it as an optional setting.

Thank you to the Airtable team for continuously improving the product, and I hope this feature returns soon!

I wholeheartedly disagree.

Hi! I'd be genuinely interested to hear why you disagree.

For me, automatically filtering the view to only the matching records made searching much faster and easier, especially in larger bases.

That said, I can also imagine there are workflows where the current behavior is preferable. Maybe the best solution would be for Airtable to offer this as an optional setting, allowing each user to decide whether search should simply highlight matches or also filter the view automatically.

That way, everyone could choose the behavior that best fits their workflow.
