Problem changing password

Should be simple, but I’m having difficulty just changing my password. My original password was created and stored by my pc. When I try and add it to the ‘original password’ field I get an INVALID PASSWORD message that pops up between the New and Original password boxes. Which is invalid? the old or the new? If the new one is invalid then why? There’s no password guidance.
