Show only one record in filter

I would like to use a date filter but only show one record.

I have a table of events. I want to show the next event on my web site. But ONLY the next event. Not the next two.

Is this possible?

One solution comes to mind, but involves some care taking:

Simply use a checkbox column for “Next” and filter based on that and remove past dates to save you unclicking a lot
