I have a formula field that only shows me the name from a string. I would like to use this name in an automatic email. Unfortunately I can't see the name.

You should test trigger with 'Choose record' and select the record where formula output is not empty.
Automation setup using test results as example values for next steps. So, if you have any additional steps between trigger and 'Send Mail', you should test them as well.
