One of my team members is running into an issue where the default interface view is “edit mode”. Please advise.

Hey @rtully85,

Whether you are re/directed to edit mode, or to published mode when clicking on interfaces button will depend on whether the Done button as been clicked or not by such user. -see screenshot below.

Your team member will want to access the interface, and then click on Done. If she/he now goes back do data, and back to the interface again, she/he will see the published version and not the edit version.

If she/he is accessing the interface from a url directly on the browser, then make sure that the url is not ending with /edit see edit example url below:

https://airtable.com/apppXXXXXX/pagXXX/edit

Hope this helps!

I’m running into the same issue. Every time I access the Interface from the Data tab, it opens in edit mode by default, showing the options: Publish, Share, and Open.

Even after I select Publish or Open, work within the interface, and return to the data view — the next time I open the interface, it puts me back in edit mode again.

It’s a loop, and I’d really prefer it to remember my last state or open in view mode by default.

Please advise.

We’re experiencing the exact same issue across our entire team. Every time someone clicks the Interface tab, it automatically opens in Design/Edit mode instead of the intended “view-only” interface. It’s especially problematic for users who don’t realize they’re in edit mode and unintentionally modify layouts or data.

Has anyone found a workaround to force the interface to open in Preview/View mode by default? It really seems like a bug, and we hope Airtable will address this soon—everyone expecting to just view data shouldn't be accidentally editing it.

Thanks in advance for any fixes or tips!

Hey @marc.hiltbrunner!

This was addressed on a couple of other community posts as well. e.g. this one.

Please find a screenshot of the answer @Heidi-Qun got from the AT team.

Have there been any developments on this issue? The interface is still defaulting to Design/Edit mode when opened for me.

Unfortunately, this is still broken.

Airtable broke this a few months ago, but they don’t seem too interested in fixing it.

I have emailed them multiple times about this, but they seem committed to this destructive change.

The best you can do is complain about this to support@airtable.com, and also be sure to fill out this form as well.

It is a sad state of affairs that they have brought this problem upon us. We can only hope that they listen to their customers and will fix it at some point in the future.

That’s tough. I am surprised that something so disruptive has continued for so long.

Request emailed and form submitted.
Thanks ScottWorld

They haven’t addressed this anywhere I’ve seen, but I’ve got a “Launch” button in bases that takes you to the interface front end. Just an educated guess but perhaps that’s the fix they’re going to pitch, instead of clicking Interfaces you click there?
