As discussed in this thread, any users of a database are able to share that database with other users, even if the creator didn’t authorize those other users. Furthermore, any users of a database are able to duplicate the database without permission from the creator. The creator is never alerted to any of these actions, either. This is a huge security concern for any business. Creators should be the only ones who are allowed to share the table with other users OR duplicate the table. Period. If the creator wants other people to be able to share or duplicate the table, then they should EXPLICITLY be able to turn on those privileges for specific users. Additionally, if another user shares or duplicates the database, the creator should then be informed of it via email. Otherwise, as it stands now, we have a potential security nightmare.

Airtable have a loooot of potential for public informations sharing but is currently missing its opportunity. I would not pay for 1000 users as commenters but I would like to let 1000 users to give me their feedback on some records from a base in my Pro Plan. An easy way to do it would be to set “Commenter users” the same way as “Real-Only users”, not considered within the billing. Benefit for a company : Be able to gather a lot of feedbacks on multiples assets & data from the public Benefit for Airtable : More customers & visibility. Since I want to gather some information from a lot of Customer & Suppliers, I will want to invite them all as “Commenter” so they will learn about Airtable and because they will need to create an account they might try and buy. Per example : Share a Kanban Product roadmap and gather suggestions Share a Products Gallery view to gather feedbacks Share a video asset base with mass users to let them clic on a video record, watch it through dashboard (loom or video) and give me their feedback trough the record comment feature.

I would love the ability to lock a table to prevent any further editing, but still maintain the ability to view, sort, filter that table. I have many records with tables per financial year, locking these would prevent errors by accident while still maintaining access.

One potential Airtable product idea could be the addition of a feature that allows for the enabling or disabling of column visibility for individual users or groups of users. This would be especially useful for teams or organizations that work with sensitive or confidential information, as it would give them more control over who can view certain types of data without having to create various views/tables/bases for each user. The same way we can choose who can edit a collumn, we could choose who can see it. Here's how this feature might work: First, the user would need to create a new table or select an existing table within Airtable. Then, they could choose to enable the column visibility feature for that table. Next, they would need to select which columns should be visible by default, and which columns should be hidden by default. Finally, the user would be able to specify which users or groups of users should have access to certain columns. For example, they might choose to hide certain columns from all users except for members of the finance team. This feature would be especially useful for businesses and organizations that need to keep certain types of information private, such as financial data or customer information. By giving users more control over who can see certain columns, Airtable would help ensure that sensitive data is only viewed by authorized personnel.

Airtable is a powerful platform for organizing and managing data, but sometimes it's necessary to restrict editing for certain users or categories of users. The ability to block editing at the record-level or cell-level would greatly enhance the security and integrity of data stored in Airtable. This feature would allow administrators to specify which users or user groups can edit or view a record or specific cells within a record, based on the value of a specified cell. For example, if a record represents an invoice or bill that has been paid, the administrator could prevent any further editing by users who are not authorized to modify paid invoices. This would ensure that the data remains accurate and protected from accidental or intentional changes. Use Case: An organization uses Airtable to manage its financial accounts. Once an invoice is marked as "paid," the administrator wants to prevent anyone other than the accounting department from editing the record. The administrator sets up a rule in Airtable so that when the "Status" cell of an invoice is set to "Paid," only members of the accounting department can edit the record. This protects the integrity of the financial data and ensures that only authorized users can make changes.

What is the proposed idea/solution? SMS 2FA is not secure: https://securityboulevard.com/2021/12/why-using-sms-authentication-for-2fa-is-not-secure/ https://www.cnet.com/news/privacy/do-you-use-sms-for-two-factor-authentication-heres-why-you-shouldnt/ https://www.zdnet.com/home-and-office/work-life/is-it-ok-to-use-text-messages-for-2-factor-authentication-ask-zdnet/ https://www.issms2fasecure.com/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_o1C-uvge8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWnadwlI5xA https://cybernews.com/security/why-you-should-stop-using-sms-for-two-factor-authentication/ https://www.forbes.com/sites/zakdoffman/2020/10/11/apple-iphone-imessage-and-android-messages-sms-passcode-security-update/?sh=762dfb812ede How does is solve the user problems? Makes them more secure. I assume AirTable doesn't want to be the next company that got hacked or that allowed its users to be hacked easily? How was this validated? This should be your number one priority. Who is the target audience? All existing and future AirTable users. Thank you!

The biggest issue with Airtable for me and many of my clients is that I cannot restrict viewing some sensitive data for new users. Let’s say I have a base which is serving as a CRM and CMS at once. I can’t divide it into two even with Airtable Sync. So I’m adding a new content editor for the CMS tables only and he can see all the money data of my client. This is NOT good at all. I strongly believe that this feature is needed for most professional users of Airtable. The Airtable team has added recently an ability to set editing and deleting permissions — it’s great but it’s not enough at all. Because of this Airtable is a limited tool for me.

I know that Airtable is designed to be like the friendly and convenient corner store, not like an Amazon distribution center that uses metal detectors and employs armed security guards. I love that about Airtable.
But the inability to shut the doors to this convenience store is, for me and my clients, a deal-breaking problem. I wish that any (or all) of the following were possible:
Creator should have option to hide the share button for all non-creator users.
If creators aren’t given ability to decide who can share/not share the base, then at least read-only users should NOT have the ability to share. When I think “read only”, I don’t think “read and make a copy for all your friends and let them make copies for all their friends…”.
Finally, it needs to be possible to restrict users to using what they’ve been given. To this end, should be a privileges level just below Editors called perhaps “End Users”. End Users should be allowed to edit data in records but NOT edit locked views. That is, for End Users, the “create private view” button would disappear.

Dear Airtable team. Really simple question. Why you don’t have a function that can share view with editing function. Everyone can see and edit everything in a base if have an access (( Even Stackby have sharing view edit possibility, but you don’t. Its very big problem to use another service to do simple function. Please do it! In Reddit post What you want in 2022 in Airtable it’s mostly liked wish.

I am requesting that Airtable add a user-specific, customizable dashboard by user. To my understanding, if you add a block, every user can see that same block. Different departments need to see different information. I haven’t been able to find how to do this. If there is already a way, please point me in the right direction. Do you have a webinar training for this? Thanks!
