Short of more granular user permissions (by table, not by base), it would be VERY useful to be able to lock certain records… or even certain fields. We have many, VERY complicated records, that we’d like to use as templates. I want to prevent someone from trying to do their job and accidentally altering the master… They don’t even have to be permission locked…just a button you have to push to MAKE SURE you want to delete/alter it, before you do.

The same way you have done the “Field & table editing permissions”, It would be really usefull to add the viewing permission. Example : In my Budgetting Base ; I want all users to see and add their record in the “Expenses table” but I don’t want all of them to see the “Income table” In my HR Base in Hirering Candidate Table ; I want all my managers to see all informations such as the CV, refeence letter, introduction message and modify good points , bad points, comments… but I don’t want them to see the “proposed salary” and “personal phone number”

I share views with people outside my organization and I’d like for them to be able to comment on the records they can see. They don’t need the ability to modify records (even though it would be nice) but they should be able to comment.

I want to build a database and give selective access for users to view and update certain records and fields. I don’t want to give them full access to the whole base, for privacy reasons and to prevent people from getting confused and making changes in the wrong places. Right now it seems like it’s all of nothing, but I’m not sure. The View Only and Form modes don’t work for me, as this doesn’t let people view the relevant data on a particular record, and update notes and specific information about that particular record. Is there a way to create a view and only share that view and all of its non-hidden fields for editing? If not, please add that feature! Or airtable will no longer work for our purposes. Thank you!

What is the proposed idea/solution? Not really 'row locking' in the database sense of dealing with simultaneous access, but rather the ability to mark a record as immutable or set certain permissions for it. Additionally -- and critically -- the ability to trigger this function through Automations. How does it solve the user problems? Enhance control over data integrity by preventing accidental modifications once a record is 'complete'; Streamline certain workflows by marking task completion; Ensure that only the right people are able to edit a record at certain points in its lifecycle, with changes to the permissions triggered by Automation, and; enable customization of data access on a per-record basis. How was this validated? User feedback expressing the desire for greater control over record modifications (which can sometimes be addressed at the Interface level with the 'Current User' option in filters, but it's not appropriate in every case and only applies to that one interface) and to prevent modifications to complete records while still being able to read the ticket in all of the normal ways (no easy way to do that from what I can tell.) Who is the target audience? Teams & Organizations managing complex workflows; Data Managers responsible for maintaining data integrity, and; Consultants & Agencies setting up systems on Airtable for their clients. This addition would bolster control over data modifications.

It would great if there was an option to lock either Collaborative or Personal Views. Right now the “Locked view” really only applies to collaboratives views. I have several views in my bases that I want to keep as Personal views but want to avoid accidently making changes, hence the need for a Locked option. Perhaps the choices could be Collaborative or Personal, with the option to toggle Locked on/off. It could look something like this:

Increased permission levels! Hiding tables from certain users Hiding views from certain users without making them personal views Hiding fields from certain users Editable shared links Allow adding records to synced tables The IOS mobile app also shows ALL views including everyone’s personal views and when a record is opened it shows all fields with only a small indicator saying that field is hidden.

Hi all, Please advise if there is any way to share a part of my base to my worker to ‘edit’ information. For now, when i want to share i have two choices: Share the whole Base of any level i want (edit, comment, view) Share only a certain view that is not possible to comment or edit I’m looking for any way to share one table or part of table (Filtered View) with an option to EDIT. Looking forward for any advise & tips Thanks in advance

Long-time fan…yet… this one thing has always perplexed me… Why can someone that ONLY has ‘view access’ to a base… can then go duplicate that entire base with all the records and then become the owner of it… all while having no audit trail of who did it. I don’t know about you but I put lots of time building my Airtables… building out custom workflows, app dashboards, syncing tables from other bases, in-depth field descriptions, specific views and putting accurate information in there to collaborate, communicate and grow with others. It is IP that an organization builds, putting countless hours into perfecting… yet anyone with ‘view’, ‘commenting’, ‘editing’ or ‘creator’ access can take that IP with no accountability. Basically, I would like to significantly reduce who has access to 'duplicate a base’ Only the 'Owner" access should be able to duplicate the base: not the creator, editor, comment or view access. Additionally add an audit trail to who duplicated the base. Maybe even giving specific users ‘this person can duplicate or not’ but I think the owner simplification would be more than sufficient. Without this option, it is such a security shortcoming that it limits the number of users I have using Airtable. And I want to tell everyone in the world about Airtable… Airtable has given me a way to organize my thoughts / systems that I didn’t know was possible. I love the origin and root behind open source programs but please let me have the option to make it open source or not. That is like someone having access to your CRM and with one button, can duplicate all customer records and how they all interact with each other. User Story As an account admin I would like control of who can duplicate our base and it’s contents. if someone can duplicate, I want a record of who did it and when. Resources I am aware of Duplicating Bases - No mention on how to avoid this Yes I know you can send over ‘views’ to people to mitigate this issue… you can send over forms so they can add records to it… grids / galleries with only the information they need to know. I desperately hope I am wrong and this indeed is actually a possible feature that I have missed. With appreciation and admiration for Airtable & it’s community, Paul
