I love using the Single Select (or Multiple Select) fields to add a pop of color to a table, and be able to see things at a glance. I also love how easy it is to change a Single Select field to a Linked Record field, and to automatically create a new table using the data from that field. But I don’t love that all my colors go away when I do this. I gain so much functionality, but lose the ability to see things at a glance. I know I can add a little colored stripe to the side of record based on certain conditions, but it’s not the same as the colorful pills in either Single or Multiple Select fields. What if there was a way to take the conditional coloring from one table, and use that to add color to that record when it appears in another table in a Linked Records field? ... View more

Filter Show/Hide Fields by Field Type The ability to filter the fields displayed in the Show/Hide vertical menu from the features bar on a Table. This would work in conjunction with the search functionality. This is handy when a Table has many fields and specific searching for specific field types. This is actually a bug in my opinion, but since it’s been around for a while… I think the activity log details should be in step with the automation history. Right now when a user pastes a new record or field for example, followed by an immediate undo or overwrite with another value, automations will fire on the pre-undo values. You will not find these original values in the record history however as it doesn’t actually store / show changes when they are really close to each other. The result is an automation update that doesn’t make sense in the context of the activity log. Many people run cohort-based online courses out of Airtable, and for them it’s crucial to collect time availability of participants and facilitators. Right now, it’s pretty painful to do so: you either have to create a huge multi-select list, or use a separate service. I think it’d be great if there was a Time Availability field type. I created a quick mock-up of what it could look like: (I didn’t bother to solve the hover user interaction, such as in when2meet, but it shouldn’t be hard.) The mock-up is implemented using ClojureScript/reagent and TailwindCSS. Afaik, Airtable uses TypeScript/React and its own CSS utility function library, so it shouldn’t be hard to port. I have also thought about the data schema in which this field could be stored on the backend, how it could be rendered inline, and what filter functions could be defined on top of it. I’m using Airtable to document design elements. Is it possible to make hex code a field type so that when I enter in a hexcode I can see what color its referring to? Slack has something similar where if you send a hexcode it recognizes it as a color and displays it in the message. ... View more

For the card layout in the grid view, you can’t control which fields display or how much width they take up. I am working on an interface design where I have a long text field which gets cut off after a few words, one field that isn’t necessary to display, and a ton of white space which could be used to display more text. It would be very useful to be able to control the width of the fields and which fields are shown (like with kanban cards). Hi Airtable Community, I was wondering if anyone knows of an app and/or Airtable feature that will let you show an Activity Indicator on Kanban boards. I know you can click on the notifications to see all comments that have been made, but it would be good to see an alert directly on the kanban card, similar to how you see an activity update on your iphone or android apps. I’m loving the new Interface Designer! I’m seeing a lot of overlap between that and the older Page Designer, but there are some features I’d love to see ported over. Specifically, I love how Page Designer has the ability to create a text box with {Fields} that you can {Put In Brackets} to fill in the blanks. I see that Interface has the ability to add a text box, but no way to for the content to be dynamic. I also love the ability in Page Designer to add an attached image and change how it’s cropped or resized to fit a certain dimension. It looks like Interface crops images without an option to scale to fit. Can’t wait to see what’s next for Interface Designer! I didn’t even know how much I would want this until I saw it.
