Legacy Product Ideas

For many of the Airtable bases I work in, I am both an admin (Creator or Owner) and a normal user (Editor). It would be very helpful to be able to quickly change my permission level within a given session to be a level lower than the one I’m assigned to in a given base (and even have that choice persist across sessions). I can’t count the number of times I’ve accidentally added a value to a single- or multi-select field list, or made other unintentional creator-level changes while editing data in a base, and usually doing undo doesn’t actually undo the structural changes, just the data changes. This seems like a very easy feature to add and would be a big help to all of the casual creator/editors out there! The alternative is to have multiple logins, which adds cost and complexity. Thanks!

Hey there, I think the date filters are somehow wrong. “is within past month” doesn’t show entries within the past month but within the past 30ish days starting a month ago. We’re now in June. When filtering for entries within the past month I would expect getting entries within May which is the past month. It would be great if this would work well. Additionally I would suggest adding “this month” to the list too. This would help show something like sales from the actual month which doesn’t currently work as a filter as far as I can see, right? There’s a bug in the Windows version of the desktop app where the affordance of the vertical scroll bar for items is smaller than the scroll icon. You can tell when the scroll bar is active when it changes color. It doesn’t change color until you are right-of-center on the scrollbar. Airtable needs to replicate how Excel helps with formulas:Highlight elements of the formula and show brackets in different colours and different formulas in different coloursProvide basic guidance… if a bracket is missing, then tell me it is missing and suggest me where it should be and ideally perhaps show a tally of brackets I add so I can later see how many closing brackets I need to add without having to go through the formula and recount the brackets; If there is a circular reference, then show me the parts that are involved; If there is a missing argument in a formula, then show me where is the missing argument, and perhaps suggest what argument is missing; some of the formulas are specific to AirTable requirements e.g. VALUE() and BLANK(), often these are used to deal with errors in other formulas, so I would appreciate if AirTable could suggest how to fix typical errors e.g. non-number argument in a formula that requires a number and so on…When

I’d like to document our user journeys in Airtable using process designs (think Visio process mapping) where each process step represents a row on a table with a previous/next linkage and corresponding information.Obviously the data side can be achieved easily using the base functionality however is there a solution for the visual representation that exists already or would this be a good block to develop?The key challenge is that our processes do not necessarily flow in linear sequence. Some have loops and branches.

Hi there, is there in the future roadmap of airtable development the possibility to upload images, automatically resizing images through predefined settings (crop image, image max dimensions, image quality, auto rename, etc.). Thanks in advance

High Value, Low Cost Feature. I find myself categorizing each Base in a WorkSpace by Bustiness Process - Finance, HR, Sales, … This is not a one-to-one relationship, so Naming Conventions has its limits. The benefits of a customizable “tag” system or category could help with one of the most challenging parts of Base Organization, Template Identification, and Navigation- all of which are key components of the UI - in how I use Airtable. Would appreciate any other ideas to build upon this simple concept! In my mind - The next “phase” could be automated integrations into discoverable services of Types with predefined interface requirements. I’d like to be able to remove specific people from receiving notifications for comments (similar to how I am able to remove someone from an email thread). Sometimes we notify a team member in the beginning of a process but then no longer need that team member to receive updates for future comments. Right now, any team member that was notified at some point in the past receives notifications for all future comments which is not necessary.

I would like to add noted to my linkedin table linked items. I was unable to add that. Is there a workaround or an app for that ?

Recommendation : Terms Searched on the app should have a history. So that user can go back and forward with their searched term.

I’m using Airtable to manage an online community that relies heavily on SMS text notifications. When members want to change their settings, they text a number and receive a link to modify their settings. I’m using a prefilled Airtable form to do this and it works great, except that I have very large multiple select field that needs to prefill with all options selected. In order to accomplish this, the prefilled form URL ends up being SUPER LONG. Also, anytime I add additional options to that multiple select field (which happens a couple times a month), I have to remember to go update my prefilled form URL template. I would love to see support for a simple URL modifier that prefills all available values in the multiple select field in one shot. Something nice and short like ‘=all_values’. Thanks!

Hello! For a shared grid view I have the items grouped by a single select field. It would be great that in the shared view there would be the group name on top of each group for better organization of the items. Thank you and keep up the good work!!

So as it is known, no direct method of creating reports. And before the community replies with suggestions of the Page Designer block, let me clarify that I am talking about MULTIPLE records per printable page to be shown in a report. What I want and what a majority of users want is something that is really quite simple but for some reason, hasn’t been implemented yet. What I would like to see is a report builder feature where it is an exact copy of a selected table in a base. Within this report builder, I may sort, filter, and hide columns to my choosing. Obviously, this may be done in the base itself. But let’s get real, that’s not sustainable. I want a one-click page to show me information sorted as I want without having to re-input all my filters. The report builder feature would allow what is basically a custom view into a printable report that can be customized for viewing ease. I have a function pulling records by merging text from 2 other fields. Then I want to use this merged field as lookup function. I can’t because Function field can’t be Lookup field at the same time. (Yes there is a work-around by manually copying from Function cell to a staging cell that will become Lookup cell. Too much work copying every time data changes in Function cell. That means copying 100 times per day.

The group header cells, or “Summary cells” have Sum Average Median Min Maxetc etc What about adding a “Custom function” option that would allow to enter a function such as the ones you can find in C# Linq? (see for instance Enumerable.Aggregate or Enumerable.ForEach) Admittedly this is a huge amount of work. But I thought I would suggest it, see who might need that too.

It would be really useful to print the names of the filters used in Page Designer on linked records. For example, on a report that shows orders for a customer for only a particular product type. But when I look at the printed report I can’t see when I’ve applied the filter and when I haven’t. One work around could be to have the report name as a field on the report instead, in which I could include a description of the filter.

When an automation fails, I get an email that it has failed, but no information about why. It is likely a one off situation but sometimes this adds up and the reason to the error is a mystery. It would be great to have some sort of debugging information to diagnose the problem. For scripts, the full error would be nice, but for other actions, even getting just the basic error message that we see when testing within AT would be helpful.

I realize that there are already lots of colors with drop downs and what not, but it would be great to have record coloring apply to the entire row, rather than just a bar on the left.Maybe there are options for each color option to either be a bar on the left or the entire row.

Accidentally pasting more than one row from an excel file overwrites the cells in the rows below the active row, so having an option that restricts pasting to the current row only (regardless of how many rows there are in the clipboard) would prevent this, which I have done several times without realizing it. Perhaps the same with the auto fill option too.

I have to decide between setting the field to be barcode field the scan barcodes) or setting it as a linked field to another table. I wish I can set it BOTH barcode and linked. If the record is not in the other linked table, it would be helpful if I was able to scan the barcode and add it there rather than type it in. There is the the linked record picker for example that could be a perfect candidate for scanning. I have a work around where I scan the barcode and then manually copy that barcode field to a staging field that is then used to link to another table. Anyhow, why not allowing scanning barcodes in almost any field in AirTable

It would be useful to be able to filter a card’s activity feed by field and date range! Many times when searching through the activity feed, we are searching for when a particular field was updated, or for or all of the activity that happened in a particular date range. When a record is linked in many places and constantly updated, the activity/history feed on that card can become so large that it becomes difficult to find when a specific field on that record was updated, or to get to a particular date range of activity, as we have to continue to click ‘load more’ for minutes until we reach the desired date range/beginning of history.
