Legacy Product Ideas

I want to build a database and give selective access for users to view and update certain records and fields. I don’t want to give them full access to the whole base, for privacy reasons and to prevent people from getting confused and making changes in the wrong places. Right now it seems like it’s all of nothing, but I’m not sure.The View Only and Form modes don’t work for me, as this doesn’t let people view the relevant data on a particular record, and update notes and specific information about that particular record.Is there a way to create a view and only share that view and all of its non-hidden fields for editing? If not, please add that feature! Or airtable will no longer work for our purposes.Thank you!

The ability to input a new record into my maintenance table requires choosing a record to link from my assets table. The issue of using auto number Unique Id’s for each table means the linked record search is not very useful. I have a table of more than 100 assets of different types. The “find a record to link” search function only lets you search according to the unique id, without being able to thin the search down by using the other columns like Type, or Asset Designation, or Manufacturer or Serial Number. I believe a suggestion was made to allow a user to create a filter for the “find a record to link” search, but I think simply expanding the search capability beyond the first column would be ideal.

Hey Airtable team, have you come across Google Data Studio? It’s a free tool that is excellent for visualising data and creating BI dashboards - a perfect companion to Airtable. Google Data Studio has ‘community connectors’ that allow users to pipe in data from third party services such as yourselves. I’m trying my hand at building a private connector for one of my bases at the moment, and it’s not too tricky. So, my request is for you folks to build a public ‘community connector’ that anyone could use to connect their Airtable data to Google Data Studio! I’m loving the new Interface Designer! I’m seeing a lot of overlap between that and the older Page Designer, but there are some features I’d love to see ported over. Specifically, I love how Page Designer has the ability to create a text box with {Fields} that you can {Put In Brackets} to fill in the blanks. I see that Interface has the ability to add a text box, but no way to for the content to be dynamic.I also love the ability in Page Designer to add an attached image and change how it’s cropped or resized to fit a certain dimension. It looks like Interface crops images without an option to scale to fit.Can’t wait to see what’s next for Interface Designer! I didn’t even know how much I would want this until I saw it. I know my team is going to find it really useful!

For Single/Multiple Select Fields there is already the ability to sort Options A>Z, but not Z>AClicking the Alphabetize button should toggle back and forth between A>Z and Z>A

More Options Menu (down arrow) to include click to copy Internal ID for these objects: Base Table View Field The Internal IDs for Fields and Tables is now in the Airtable API, but would be ideal to have this as part of the Airtable UI too: Latest changes to our API, SDK, & Documentation Known workaround is to get these IDs from URLs in the Browser.

Continuing the discussion from Changing Displayed Field in Calendar View: Just wanted to cross post this in the correct forum since it’s not a feature I couldn’t find but a feature that doesn’t exist yet. It would be nice if we could change the display field of a table to be something other than the primary key field. Thanks!

Today I hit my maximum number of automations which is 25 in case you are unaware as I was. It would be great if there was a way to upgrade that number with a fee. Or if the limit was a bit higher. Of if there was a "you have x number automations left’ message so I wasn’t to be caught unaware. Unfortunately my master plan of fully automating my use cases cannot be implemented as I had hoped. I’ll figure out a work around but I have to admit I am severely disappointed.

I’m using Airtable now for almost everything and I love grouping feature. But when I group by date it groups by every single day but possibility to group by month would be better because there would be only 12 groups instead of 1 to 365.

My forms get very long when I add the descriptions in them. I’d like the ability to add a description, but have an icon that the user can click or hover over to pop up a description of the field.Currently, my workaround is to add another option “see more info” that they click and then a conditional field shows.Is this feature available already?

It would be very helpful to have a new formula function akin to Excel’s IFERROR, or even add an optional fourth parameter to IF as a branch to be taken if an error occurs in evaluating the expression. e.g., IF([logical argument],[true branch],[false branch],[error branch])

Please allow accessing headers (for example for authorization check purposes) and raw body (if I don’t know the exact JSON structure in advance) in Automations.

I keep running into this “brick wall” because recursive structures are necessary to many of my bases because many of the data I am managing are naturally hierarchical in nature (XML, JSON, folder/directory paths, org structures, etc).I understand that endless recursion can kill the platform but I would suggest that the limitation should be done at runtime and detect a maximum # of levels of depth before giving out an error. It would be awesome to have the ability to build one form that feeds info to two different tables. I’d like to send a form to prospective clients and have their answers populate a Companies table and a Contact Info table, also linking the records together. In building the form, fields from all tables in a base could be made available for creating new records and any new records created as a result of the form would then be linked. Currently, I’m using one table that has grown rather large with all the fields for both contact info and company info. So…whadya say, Airtable? In the pipeline? I am an artist working with various companies in various Markets/Categories (ie: greeting cards, home decor, stationery, and gift). Some companies are in multiple markets such as greeting cards & gift; whereas other companies just serve one. Think Micheal’s v.s. Hallmark. The former serves multiple markets while the latter is likely just greeting cards (just go with me). So now that you have the back story, I’d like to be able to Group by Markets/Categories, BUT, I would like a record to duplicate itself in this view to list in BOTH greeting cards and gift. I DON’T want it to be Grouped as “Greeting Cards, Gift” because it could be the only company listed as such. I use airtable it is wonderful invention in the world. thank you for airtable team to create the great software!!! i use webflow to design my site. wf is a most cool tool to design web page it’s animation is really great!!! wf(webflow)’ CMS system, is not so easy to use like at(airtable). -----in wf cms i can not change field data type after i first decided. but i can change in at. modify record order by drag and drag…, at can at is really good to use. can webflow can use airtable to be the cms data source if can it is really wonder!!!

I am trying to use airtable for our applicant tracking system. I love the interface on iOS, especially the option to text or call right from the phone number field in the form for each applicant. However, when I use the iCal subscription link to put the interview dates on people’s calendars, the link opens the record on the airtable website and not the mobile app. This might be fine if the phone recognized the phone number as a link and opened the phone app, but it doesn’t. Is it possible to have a link that opens in the iOS app? We can manually calendar the interviews if I can put a link to the record that opens in the iOS app. Thanks!

“Expand Record” would be ten times more useful if I could configure field visibility so that more fields are visible automatically in expanded view than are visible in grid view. I’d like to be able to create compact grid views showing (say) six fields, and when user clicks the “expand record” button (or types Space), the expanded view dialog would show all six of the grid fields PLUS other fields per my configuration for that expanded view.I am aware that there is a button in expanded that says something like “14 hidden fields” and I can click that button to see those hidden fields. But in addition to being an extra pain in the neck, this is less helpful to my users than it needs to be. Airtable often requires the use of utility fields that users never need to view. I’d like to be able to continue hiding THOSE fields, but show others that would be useful to users.I can think of different ways this might implemented. It would be amazing if we could actually restore the snapshot to the production baseIt’s somewhat frustrating that the snapshot confirmation message is written in a way that suggests this capability.Obviously this is no easy feat and there are landmines everywhere in development of such a product feature, but it really would be an awesome administrative feature.As a use case example, I make a snapshot of the database prior to making global modifications within a table using the CSV Import app. I do this because there is no “undo” feature once the CSV Import app’s “Save Records” button is pressed. CSV importing is a little precarious because 1) it is a GUI and whoops, my cat just ran over the keyboard, and 2) while the preview has decent overview of the merge, it does not always display all the modification details, so I am always a little nervous when using it.If I had the “freedumb” to make a mistake that I could “undo” by restoring the snapshot’s data to the production database datab

Thanks for a great product!I have created a fair number of automations and my list is growing longer and longer.Unfortunately, they are shown in order of when they are created, and so the list is a mess.It would be nice to be able to reorder the list manually so they are shown in a manner that makes sense to the creator.Adding the ability to put them in folders would be nice too, but I won’t get greedy.Thanks again for a great product. I need to make my data available to the public, where they can sort, filter, and group the tables to their heart’s content, to analyze the data for their own purposes. But NOT to have permission to edit, delete, or add to the data. Please, please do this! I need it badly.

This happens a lot:I create a view using a filter.I’d like to add records to the view.But I’ve lost the ability to see the filtered out records, so I can’t edit them without going to another view.Wanted: an affordance to let me see the filtered out records - inactive. I.e. they could be sorted to the bottom, greyed out. Then I could edit them and have them appear ‘active’ in the view.

Not sure if this belongs here, but it’s technically a product suggestion, so I thought I’d say it! There’s a whole group of people who 1) use Airtable casually but prolifically, for personal use, on the free plan 2) would love the ability to use more colors 3) can’t afford the insanely high $20/month for the Pro plan. Color options are a tangible, immediate improvement to any base that most users go looking for. (Airtable knows this—there’s a reason the “Colors” button is prominent in the toolbar!) I think that if Airtable offered a flat fee for color options alone, it would greatly improve the experience of some of us free users. As for what Airtable stands to gain here: to put it bluntly, they could make money that they wouldn’t otherwise. Those of us who can’t afford a recurring $20/month and just want colors aren’t going to, say, give in once the desire becomes strong enough, and subscribe for a month or two or something; they’re going to look at the fact that it’s a recurring paym
