I have paid the invoice which failed yesterday. I had automatically been downgraded to free plan. However even after paying the invoice when I try to upgrade, it takes me to billing and then says we cant charge your card right now.

It seems that AT might be having some issues with payments, you can check out this other post as well.
You’ll probably want to reach out to support@airtable.com 

Also, do yo know who your Account Executive is? If so, you’ll want to email him/her. If you do not get any answer, please feel free to DM me and I can try to contact you with someone from their sales dept.
