It would be usefull to be able to adjust the header height. I woud use this feature to reduce the width of a field and still be able to read the header.

I would love to be able to have a record appear in two groups when using a multiple select field, rather than having the record create a new group that is the combination: i.e. Record 1 — A Record 2 — B Record 3 — A,B Group A Record 1 Record 3 Group B Record 1 Record 3 Current functionality creates a new group called Group A,B and each group then only has one record.

What is the proposed idea/solution? I would like to see the added options within a Grid View (and also in Interfaces) of the ability to manipulate the order of Linked Records within a Link field. Options including; Sort Records by an associated View within the Linked Table. Sort Records by one or many lookup fields within the Linked Table (such as a date, number, string etc). Sort Records as per their originally linked stack order, but also add a reverse stack option to show the recently added records either first or last. A toggle option that turns off all sort and leaves the current behaviour as is, allowing the user to manually sort records into any random order they desire. If the user toggles a sort on, and then off again, their desired manual sort order returns (and is not lost). How does is solve the user problems? A user can employ a Scripting Extension script or an Automation script action to execute upon their Link Field being updated, where their script applies the desired sort order to the records within the field - but such a workaround is rigid and out of reach of most common users. I believe that having Link Field sort options as part of the Airtable UI would be a widely accepted and used feature. Who is the target audience? Anyone using a Link Field who finds the need to apply order to those linked records within that Link Field.

It would be great to be able to hide some tables from all user levels except for the Creator. Use Case: We use AirTable to track sales and generate orders. Most users are Editors and only need to see the main sales tables which hold the full sales records. We have a lot of tables which hold data for things like accessories and consumables. These are pulled into the main sales tables via lookup. Editors don’t ever need to see these tables. The base looks very cluttered and confusing to new Editors as they see lots of tabs (tables) at the top. Only the Creator(s) need to see or edit the contents of the accessories and consumables tables.

Hello All, Personally I use airtable to track things throughout the day, and I’ve found it quite annoying to not have a time field option that is separate from the date. Of course I can enter the time manually in a single line text entry, but I think since we can enter the date without the time it only makes sense that we be able to enter the time without the date. What do you all think? Is this something you would find useful or something you have wished for? Claire

I love using the Single Select (or Multiple Select) fields to add a pop of color to a table, and be able to see things at a glance. I also love how easy it is to change a Single Select field to a Linked Record field, and to automatically create a new table using the data from that field. But I don’t love that all my colors go away when I do this. I gain so much functionality, but lose the ability to see things at a glance. I know I can add a little colored stripe to the side of record based on certain conditions, but it’s not the same as the colorful pills in either Single or Multiple Select fields. What if there was a way to take the conditional coloring from one table, and use that to add color to that record when it appears in another table in a Linked Records field?

This thread really highlighted the need for Airtable to automatically create “back links” (or “reverse links”) when you are creating a self-linking linked record field (i.e. a field relationship that links a table back to itself). All other linked record fields in Airtable automatically create these “back links” or “reverse links”, but they don’t get created when doing a self-relationship within a single table. This is especially crucial for using the Org chart block, which REQUIRES that you create a self-linking relationship within a table. The Org chart block doesn’t even support creating links between separate tables! You’ll notice in the Org chart demonstration video that there are 2 self-linked fields: “Direct Reports” and “Direct Supervisors”. All of that data had to be manually inputted & manually verified by the user, because there is no automatic way to have those 2 fields automatically communicate with each other. If you’re dealing with a very small number of records, it might be relatively easy & relatively trivial to manually input both sides of the links for every record. But once you start dealing with hundreds or thousands of records, it becomes a real chore to start manually managing all of these links. Same problem if you’re trying to BREAK a self-relationship between 2 people. If you delete the relationship on one side, the relationship on the other side should AUTOMATICALLY break. But the way it is now, you actually have to remember to manually break both sides of the relationship. Unfortunately, we only have 2 options for creating backlinks in Airtable: (1) Write a custom JavaScript to handle this for us. Two scripts that do this are available here and here. or (2) For a no-code way of doing this that doesn’t require writing any programming code at all, we can use Make’s advanced Airtable automations, which is a no-code automation tool for Airtable. But all of this should be natively built into Airtable. I was a FileMaker developer for over 30 years before becoming an Airtable consultant, and FileMaker is an advanced database app that natively solves this problem because backlinks are automatically built into the product. FileMaker solves all the other Airtable limitations as well, because FileMaker is a full-blown programming language with no limits. If anybody needs a referral to a FileMaker developer, feel free to reach out to me through my website: https://www.scottworld.com/ Hope this helps! What is the proposed idea/solution? I propose the introduction of a new field type named "Location." This field would be specifically designed to handle address inputs more efficiently and accurately in tables and more specifically form fields. The key feature of this field would be its integration with an address autocomplete service, like Google Places API, to assist users in entering correct and standardized addresses. How does is solve the user problems? Enhanced Data Accuracy: Autocomplete would reduce the likelihood of errors and inconsistencies in address data entry, ensuring higher data quality. Improved User Experience: Users would find it easier and faster to input addresses, enhancing the overall usability of forms and databases. Streamlined Data Collection: For applications like CRM, event management, and logistics, where address data is crucial, this feature would streamline data collection and processing. Global Address Coverage: Leveraging a service like Google Places would provide access to a comprehensive and updated global address database. How was this validated? In our specific scenario, we receive engineering service requests from customers and clients through our website. A critical component of efficiently processing these requests is obtaining accurate location addresses. Currently, we find that only about 50% of the addresses submitted are correct. This inefficiency hampers our workflow, as we frequently need to allocate additional time and resources to verify and complete partial or incorrect addresses. Common issues we encounter include misspelled street names, inaccurate street suffixes (such as St., Ln., Dr., Ave.), and missing or erroneous zip codes. Who is the target audience? This feature would be immensely beneficial to any user who relies on storing and utilizing location addresses within Airtable. Given the platform's extensive user base, it's reasonable to assume that this encompasses a significant number of individuals and organizations. ...

Two of the major limitations of Airtable when creating a link from one table (“Table A”) to another table (“Table B”) is that: We can ONLY link to the primary field in the other table (“Table B”). To truly unleash massive amounts of power & flexibility & customizability in any database system, we need the ability to MANUALLY CHOOSE which field in “Table A” should be linked to which field in “Table B”. Linking is always done MANUALLY instead of AUTOMATICALLY. Unlike other database systems, Airtable doesn’t automatically scan for matching values in linked fields — a human must manually intervene by manually linking records. Obviously, these changes would graduate Airtable from the realm of “beginner-level database program” into a more “advanced-level database program”, but it would enable us to create all sorts of advanced database solutions that we can’t create now. It would also remove lots of migration headaches when importing/migrating data into Airtable from other advanced database apps.
