Currently if a formula field will return only a date or a number, Airtable will have formatting options for that formula field. However, if the formula will return a string or might return a string, or might return anything other than a date/number, there are no formatting options. Sometimes I write a formula so that it will usually output a date or number, but will return a string if an error condition is met. For example, a formula might calculate the number of days between two dates (a number) but output a string if the end date is before the begin date. This product suggestion has multiple parts to deal with these situations: Allow formulas to output errors which are distinct from the calculated value. For example, if a formula calculates a negative number, but negative numbers are not allowed from a business logic point of view, have the formula report an error that would be recognized as an error, not just another value. This would be similar to the #ERROR message, but could include a human readable string saying what the error is from a business logic point of view. Once formulas can report errors as errors, many formulas that sometimes return strings could then be considered to always return a number or a date or an error or blank, and thus could have formatting options. Increase the formatting options for formula fields to include formatting options for all the formula types. For example, a formula could be formatted as a centered check box (not just a left aligned emoji), as a rating with stars, as a select (with the colors of a select).

Would like a chat block  I know that lot of communication happens in Slack but I think that it would be useful anyway Here is how it could work: A chat block could be set to display comments from records across the entire base from the views of your choice. So it would be like a basewide activity feed. Like the activity feed, you could select whether you will see activity and comments or only comments. Sometimes I miss the ability to quickly see what has happened in the base since last. With the coming block dashboard you could create a dashboard for certain teams and add chat blocks only for them, and that would only show records comments from the views that were relevant to them I actually think that a lot of our Slack channels would end up as Chat blocks if this was an option. It would also give people a sense of being together in a base and not just working together on it.

Hello! Love this software. Starting to use it for post-production supervising in film and I was wondering if there were any plans to spruce up timecode support? Right you have duration which does, HH:MM:SS, but it would be great to get HH:MM:SS:FF, and different framerate support as well. Would also be amazing to add, subtract, and convert these values to different framerates. Anyone know of another way of doing this? Was thinking about doing a bunch of formula fields to manually calculate, but I’m thinking I might just use my google sheets script to calculate everything out first. Thanks,

When I use a lookup table to reference an e-mail address, url, or phone number in another table, I would like those fields to act as active e-mail addresses, urls & phone numbers when they are displayed in the lookup table. Currently the lookup table formats them as text, so if I want to e-mail a group of people from a particular set of lookup fields, I have to hand copy all of the e-mail addresses. Or, if I want to text someone from a particular lookup field, I have to hand copy the phone number.

I am trying to create a company budget database where all the accounts are in the main table (grid view), but some of them are subaccounts of other accounts (and others are sub-sub-accounts, etc.). All the parent/child relationships are between records in the same table. How do I display the data where the sub accounts are indented under their parent records and can roll up at each step of the hierarchy, if desired (including a calculated sum field) For example, 100 Personnel Costs ($250K) <-- This is a calculated roll-up from subaccounts 110 Salary & Wages ($200K) 120 Healthcare ($50K) 200 Facilities ($65K) <-- Calculated 210 Rent ($30K) 220 Maintenance ($20K) 230 Exterior ($15K) <-- Calculated 231 Grounds ($10K) 232 Signage ($5K) etc.... It would be nice to roll up the budgeted amounts for each subaccount into a field in its parent account. I tried the List view type, but that requires a relationship between records in two different tables.

What is the proposed idea/solution? ... A new feature that transposes the Rows and Columns of a View. How does is solve the user problems? ... It is useful to transpose the Rows and Columns of a Table for for viewing and / or calculations. In Airtable it is more efficient to create Records for time rather than Fields (e.g. each Row is a unit of Time like a Week, Month, Quarter, Year, etc. and not the column). The ability to see each unit of Time as a column moving from left to right is standard practice. How was this validated? ...This is a core feature to all spreadsheet applications. Who is the target audience? ...All Users

I work with financial metrics for projects and I will love to be able to calculate Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR) on my projects, as well as other and other basic financials metrics. Please add the functionality.

I’ve found the need for an Eval() (Evaluate Function) that would allow you to have a different formula for each record in a table. For example, if you have a field called Formula Text with the following data for the first 3 records:
TRIM(UPPER({Input Field 1}))
CONCATENATE({Input Field 2}, " ",{Input Field 3})
CONCATENATE("Expiration Date: ",{Input Field 4})
The Eval() function would allow you to create a new field called Formula Result, who’s properties are set to Formula with the following formula: Eval({Formula Text}), and the results for the first 3 records would be (I’ve omitted sample data and have just performed the functions in the formula to the names of the Input Fields):
INPUT FIELD 1
Input Field 2 Input Field 3
Expiration Date: Input Field 4

It would help us out in a major way if we could color code multiple columns at a time. Ideally, we’d love to be able to see green vs red differences in how much we spent vs how much our budget was for several of our products. For instance, we have 6 columns: Budget 1 Spend 1 Difference 1 Budget 2 Spend 2 Difference 2 When setting up the conditional logic, we’d love to be able to say “if the difference is less than x, make the field green.” Thank you so much!

I keep running into this “brick wall” because recursive structures are necessary to many of my bases because many of the data I am managing are naturally hierarchical in nature (XML, JSON, folder/directory paths, org structures, etc). I understand that endless recursion can kill the platform but I would suggest that the limitation should be done at runtime and detect a maximum # of levels of depth before giving out an error. Otherwise, this tool becomes severely limited for some applications. Here is a simple example with 1 table “Employee”: https://airtable.com/invite/l?inviteId=invD1UFeDZHdOkhuD&inviteToken=f09215f8c21ddc2de45b656c06b84fdbaaca3330f1e28b1d86190a620a3fffd2 The column Manager is a link to the same table (Employee). The column ManagerPath is a lookup to the Manager link’s Path column. The Path and ManagerPath columns are currently not correct because I cannot enter the correct formula for Path because of the “circular reference” error. The formula for the Path column should be: IF(Manager != "", ManagerPath & "->", "") & Name Given the above formula, the values of Path and ManagerPath would have been: I think this should be a valid scenario and that the recursion should be allowed (up to a pre-defined limit of levels to prevent endless recursion/loop).
