Rollups/Lookups for Rich Text Fields Lose their Markdown formatting. That is a real bummer. Would like to be able to have an option in the Formatting tab to keep Rich Text Formatting.

Love the long text field rich text options. Can we extend markdown to formulas as well? Why The usage could extend way beyond this, but my use cases are summary fields using rollups and formulas. Right now it looks like this: But as ‘Satuses’ scales to track more complicated lists, I’d like it to look more like: Complete 001: Modeling (someone’s name) 002: Modeling (someone’s name) Incomplete 003: Modeling (someone’s name) 004: Modeling (someone’s name) The bold formatting really makes a difference from a readability standpoint. Monospace or tab characters \t would also be lovely to ensure consistent formatting.

One of the most basic and best things I learned about Airtable is how to use " \n " to get the line breaks in a formula result. That makes it easy to format text in columns without need use gimmicks. Excel uses ALT+Enter and this one doesn’t work in AirTable. I suggest Airtable takes the input “ALT+Enter” on the keyboard and translates it into " \n ". That way more users benefit who may otherwise not know there is such a thing in Airtable. If I may take this a step further, perhaps adding formatting options would be neat. For example by adding /b for bold text in formula output. I know this is stretching airtable far beyond what it is expected to do, but here are some marketing folks using Airtable so it may be useful. Airtable Support Add a line break using \n When working with formulas - especially when combining several fields of information - it can often be helpful to program in line breaks and other formatting features to better display the result o...

Airtable finally added this calendar month as a date filter option which is great, however there needs to be a last calendar month instead of just last month. We need to submit every month our expenses from the previous month. So for example today, I need to be able to see all expenses from January (i.e. last calendar month). How it is now if I do last month, it will show me expenses from Jan 14 - Feb 14 which is not useful.

What is the proposed idea/solution? Formula fields have recently gained the ability to be formatted as single selects and checkboxes. I propose that formula fields also have the ability to be formatted as users and rich text. How does is solve the user problems? User fields are very useful for filtering records in interfaces, especially for filtering on the "current user". However, currently, the filter only works on actual user fields, but sometimes the user should be a calculated value. For example, a record might have a different assignee, depending on the stage of the record. It would be useful to have a formula field calculate the current assignee so that the interface page can then show all of the records where the user is a current assignee. For rich text fields, I currently have a formula field that serves as a template to build paragraphs in markdown, combined with an automation that copies the formula result to a rich text field. If the formula field could be formatted directly as rich text, I would not need the helper rich text field or the automation. This would also reduce issues with determining when the automation needs to be re-triggered. How was this validated? Based on my experience with Airtable, I think these features would be useful. Who is the target audience? ...

I'd love to be able to designate universal variables that could be referenced from any table in a base. So, for example, if I have a sales tax rate of 8%, I'd like to set that sales tax rate in one single place and then be able to reference that in formulas across the entire base. Currently, if I want to set up this type of variable, I need to 1) create a table of variables then 2) make sure every single record in the other tables is linked to the variables table 3) add a lookup field to every table that looks up this universal variable 4) create a formula which references this variable in the lookup field. For each universal variable, one should be able 1) give it a unique name that could be referenced in formulas across the entire table 2) set a data type (number, currency, percentage, etc) Then, if the sales tax rate changes, I just update the reference variable, and the changes propagate to all the formulas in the base that reference it. It's true that this could be done with manual copy paste or automations, but that's a LOT of work or automations for a very basic bit of functionality. It could easily eat into an automations cap on an AirTable plan. I imagine that it is pretty easy to script for someone who knows how to code, but that's a lot of work (or vendor cost) just to set a variable. I'd love to be able to tell AirTable: "I'm creating a universal variable called "SalesTax". It is a percentage variable." Then enter the number 8% and be done.

I’ve seen requests to have specify a color for linked records, but I’d like to request a feature where the linked item actually gets its color from the linked table. Example: I have tasks with a “completed” field in one table. I created a nice color coding in that table to see at a glance, what’s in progress or done. I then link to these tasks from another table. But there, I only see a long list of grey boxes that don’t give me any information other than their name. To see which of these linked tasks are actually finished, I need to click every one of them and open the detail window. Imagine I could specify that the boxes should inherit the color from a view of that linked table. In the column config dialog, I pick the view the color should come from and voila. At a glance, I see what tasks are done, in progress, not started, without changing tables or clicking into every one.

It would be really helpful for me to be able to ‘Copy Filters as Formula’. Often I switch from using View Filters to an IF(AND()) type formula when filters get more complicated, or I want to re-use the logic across multiple tables with lookups.
In these scenarios, I end up having to reverse-engineer the filters myself which is time consuming, prone to error and hard to test!
It would be great it Airtable would supply the formula - it would also help new users understand how the connection between the two.

Here are a couple ideas, but this is a topic I’m sure Airtable developers could have fun with: Multi-line formula editor (then auto-minifying before submission) Error code highlighting But if that’s too ambitious, a simple code beautifier would be sufficient. This one unfortunately doesn’t play nice with Airtable formulas because of the braces { } in fields names.
