There are a number of task management features that Airtable needs in order to fully replace other popular apps. I think the best dedicated task management app is MeisterTask (like Trello), which has a superb UI and functional design. I recommend paying close attention to what they’ve done—then consider ways Airtable could imitate (and improve upon!) some of that design. Here are some specific features for better task management: Checklists - This is already a highly demanded feature request. Checklists could be another field type or an automatic component of all records. (MeisterTask checklists are fast and easy, with template options!) Email Addresses for Records - Automatically assign an email address for each record, so emails can be sent and stored in a record. Once again, this could be built into each record or added as its own field type. Stack and Card Customization - The kanban and gallery views would both benefit from adjustable sizing and placement options; the width of cards and stacks should be adjustable; the visible fields on cards should be configurable. I suggest these display options for each field: fit within fractions of the card width (1/4, 1/3, 1/2, or full), fit within a number of lines down, wrap info, shrink-to-fit, and ‘display everything’. Card Functionality - To further improve card-style views, the visible fields should be clickable and editable without having to open the full record. All white space can still be used to drag the card or open the record. Side-by-Side Record Views - Already a popular feature request. I suggest this for widescreen displays: open full record views on the left side of the screen. If a second full record is opened, display it on the right, then repeat this pattern for each new record opened. Alternatively, enable users to click and drag the location of the full record view. Form Validation - Enforce data validation when users fill out a form. If it requires an email address, prevent users from submitting the form until the proper email syntax is entered. Form Notifications - Enable customized email notifications for form respondents and workspace collaborators Phone options - the phone version needs significantly more functionality, but for now it just needs the ability to duplicate records and settings. The use of views is obviously a crucial and powerful aspect to airtable but it can very quickly get bloated, especially when a base is being shared amongst a team. My first thought is to have “private views” or “user view”, which I think reflects airtable’s goal of creating a tool that allows users to define their own tool. Within a certain table I may want to save multiple views that are really only relevant to what I want to see, and there’s no need to a) clutter up the views list for everybody and b) allow anyone else to see or edit these views. This would also solve some of the requests regarding granular permissions for views. For the public views, I still think it would be great to have a way to save the settings of a view so multiple people can use the view without changing it. For instance, if there is a view that just shows all the records, if somebody on the team starts filtering things, and doesn’t remove the filters, the next person who selects that view will see all the filters. On our team, we’ve been making different views for each user, both so our personal selections don’t effect others, and so we can look and edit the same data at the same time without affecting other users views. However, it would be great to be able to “revert” to a set saved state for a specific view. I find we don’t treat each view as a static state, but a starting off point. I know some of these issues have been discussed on the forum, but I think these types of solutions, “user views” and “revert” could solve a lot of the problems we’ve been having. Hi – We are running into challenges in having a large number of users with Editor permissions that need to be able to update records in our tables, but also make changes to the View configuration (filters, groupings, etc) that break usage models that we’ve put in place. The bulk of our users are ones that need read-write permissions at the record level, but don’t need the ability to change the view filters/configuration of public, shared views. So our use case is something like this: Configure a views that work well for a given purpose Assign an owner responsible for making any changes to the view configuration (including fielding requests for such changes). For example, a “View Owner” field at the View level. Lock this configuration, such that it can only be unlocked and edited/updated by the above owner Make the view visible to all our users as a sort of “officially blessed” view Allow other users to edit the records but not change the view configuration in-place Allow them to clone the view privately if they want to make their own version of the view (but leave the original untouched), for example via Private Views Make sure everyone can determine who the “owner” user is so they can contact them to ask for changes / updates to the locked view. Private views don’t do it because their visibility is tied to all users, not individual views – we want to be able to show/hide (or publish/unpublish) one view at a time, vs show/hide everyone’s private view. I’m aware that user permissions is an active area of enhancement requests, so this overlaps somewhat with the following (especially the first two), but I couldn’t find this specific use case written up so I thought I’d submit it independently. I am an artist working with various companies in various Markets/Categories (ie: greeting cards, home decor, stationery, and gift). Some companies are in multiple markets such as greeting cards & gift; whereas other companies just serve one. Think Micheal’s v.s. Hallmark. The former serves multiple markets while the latter is likely just greeting cards (just go with me). So now that you have the back story, I’d like to be able to Group by Markets/Categories, BUT, I would like a record to duplicate itself in this view to list in BOTH greeting cards and gift. I DON’T want it to be Grouped as “Greeting Cards, Gift” because it could be the only company listed as such. When I view an image of an A4 paper in an attachment field, the viewer doesn’t let me zoom. The viewer fits the entire image to the screen and because of the proportions, it becomes narrow. Most of the time, text is not visible and zooming is necessary. Currently, I right click and open the image in a new tab and display image in its full size. It would be very handy if there was a zooming widget like e-commerce sites use for product pictures. I’m sure you would come up with the best style.
