Howie, the Airtable CEO just announced that we’re getting granular permissions!
“We’re looking to significantly expand our team in 2018. We have some major product improvements around fulfilling enterprise needs and will be introducing features like more granular permissioning.”
Boom :exploding_head:

Something that would be hopefully rather easy to implement is adding support for a location text field in the generated calendar feeds. Ie. just a regular text field that is turned into a LOCATION line in the iCal feed.

Currently, when you retrieve records through the API and specify a view, only those records that are visible through the view are returned, and they are returned in the order in which they are displayed. This is a noce feature, and I use it often.
It would also help if the API returned only the columns that are visible through the specified view. In other words, any hidden columns would be excluded from the result. I believe that this would help both in terms of security and performance.

I think it would be great to be able to update the names of files once they’re uploaded; this is especially needed when linking images or files from online instead of uploading since you have no control on the naming structure for those external files. I’ve recently found that searching a base includes what’s in the filename and this is becoming problematic since I often link to images on the web that have a lot of text in the filename that I would prefer not to be there.
I think the ability to edit properties of uploaded files once they’re in the base would be a huge help.

So I have a couple of tables that I use to link deliverables to jobs and tasks to deliverables. Each line on these linked tables don’t really have a name that makes sense, so I use a number. I’ve used auto number reluctantly because it’s sort of a “dumb” auto number. By “dumb” I mean that it starts at 1 and increments from there. If I delete something out of the row, it picks up where the last increment was. If I delete something at the end of my list, now my nicely numbered rows are missing a number.
I’d like to be able to start the auto number at an arbitrary number, and turn on an option to make sure that it is “smart” about the way it increments so that it looks at the last number currently in the table and adds 1 (n+1) rather than a simple (i++ ).

Thanks for your hard work on this beautiful software! I would love to see the ability to start the time tracker block from an individual record. The workflow would be much more simple than having to click to the time tracker block, press Start, (and the most time consuming part) searching for the proper “task” record to add time to. Thanks again!

When communicating with a developer I want to be able to paste pictures into the comments - just like it would be possible to insert it into Slack/Gmail. This helps when we’re seeing bugs in the development.
Alternative right now is to upload the picture in one of the fields, but this is slightly more cumbersome and you cannot connect this easily to one of the comments

Activate an option to scroll horizontally with the mouse wheel. Useful on table view when having lots of fields.

I am really afraid of someone deleting my base. It would be great if bases could be password protected or backed up somewhere else.

It would be great if we could take a photo of a business card, then have OCR read the info and place it in the appropriate columns you define. It would also include the image of the card as an attachment.
Some kind of process wizard that highlights the info before it places it into the columns might be needed for this, but if you do this it would be unbelievably helpful!
