Legacy Product Ideas

I would love to see more icons added to the options for a base. I know I can add personal emoticons and stuff, but they’re not the same when they display publicly. I share airtables with the public regularly for my business, and just want more options. I run a game and comic shop. I’d love some dice, swords, fantasy beasts, armor, super-heroes, etc. None of that stuff exists. There’s one shield. In the immortal words of John Oliver, cool.Hospitals get 4 icons to express the same concept.Maybe just a revisit on this at some point?Thanks!

I work with financial metrics for projects and I will love to be able to calculate Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR) on my projects, as well as other and other basic financials metrics. Please add the functionality.

I’d like to be able to create the following column: Product(s)/Quantity (Key/Value Multi-Select)Oranges: 4Apples: 2 Oranges:3Bananas: 1 Why Alternatives are InsufficientMultiple ColumnsSeparating the product from the quantity means that data is disassociated unless each option has it’s own columns (Oranges, Oranges Quantity). So solutions are verbose and the bases grow unnecessarily wide. Advanced LinkingAnother approach would be to separate each product as its own line item (or table row), or even split them out to separate tables. All of this is too much to ask from a client using a form view or a non-Airtable savvy user.

In working with the Organization Chart Block, it would be really neat if we could just embed the block dashboard view instead of having to have the entire base embedded in a website. It would help our site look a lot cleaner. Thanks!

Hi,This might be difficult to achieve but is there any chance Airtable can make the Comment box one of the field types when creating a new column in grid view?That way a Grid view can list every project with only the most recent Comment visible, but the full Comment history could be viewed by expanding each record? It would be the most perfect addition for simple project tracking.Cheers,AC

The ability to comment on specific sections of an image or video is very helpful for our marketing team. Is there a way to do the same thing for a document that’s been uploaded or a PDF? We often generate copy in this way and would like to be able to have people suggest edits the same way.

I know this topic has been brought up before but I haven’t seen any topics about it post-table syncing implementation.Would really like the ability to hide tables in bases - specifically tables I have syncing. For the most part, I’m syncing the table and then using some automations to find and match to existing records and then using lookups to pull in the information I need. The synced table really isn’t providing any value except for the specific fields I’m looking up. So, if there was an ability to hide these tables it would lessen the cluster of unnecessary tables in a base but still allow for specific information to be pulled in, matched, and synced.

I’m mostly color blind so a lot of the colors used in Airtable are very hard for me to differentiate.It would be great if Airtable implemented a color blind mode similar to Trello where the colors also had a pattern overlay on top of them. This makes it possible to distinguish at a glance and is immensely helpful for people like me.

Hello! Right now you can pretty much only show the record name on the calendar, and I’d love to be able to select other fields to show as well (or instead).I’ve played the game where the record name is a formula and combines multiple fields, but that’s annoying because you have to enter the field to make edits. It also just looks a little sloppy.Thanks!

When I am searching for a linked record, I can only search if I know the first field (locked) for that table. However, when I start typing, I can see other fields listed in the options for each record that comes up.I’d like to search by those other fields, that will still get me to that linked record, not by just the first field.Example. Many of the linked records are listed like XMANS, XMAND, MANGS, UMIMG, UMIMAI can’t remember all of these codes, but I know what I am searching for - so if I typed something like “Ear Mite” it would show me possible linked records to choose from, of which I would select UMIMG.Hopefully that makes sense - will try to attach an image.

We’d like to be able to see increments smaller than days in the timeline view. If we could see Days as a date range we would be able to plan out multiple projects over the course of a day on an hourly basis.

As far as I can tell, Airtable does not offer the ability to create global fields (within an Account) that can be reused across all Bases. This is a critical feature if I’m going to create a Field that would essentially be reused in multiple Tables across multiple Bases.The primary idea for a Global Field is to create it once, and reuse it multiple times. Additionally, if I add/remove items in the field (e.g. a Select Field type) then all tables using that field would be updated automatically.I realize I could create a template and then all future Bases could be created from that table, and hence include that field, but this does not cover the field update scenario.

I think a feature like collapsable fields would be helpful. It is done be indenting a field and it goes under a larger task.That way they can be hidden and sort of stacked.

I have an interface that requires me to pull the same reporting stats monthly, and I have found Interface designer to be a perfect tool for this, with it’s simplified UX compared to the makeshift app dashboard I had previously been using. However, I am having to recreate each month’s stats from scratch each time, when I really just want to pick up exactly the same elements and connect them to a new filter. I wish I could copy/paste the elements (or group of elements) to make this task less arduous. Does this function already exist and I am just missing it? Thanks!

When you group rows in a grid view, you can select how each column will be summarized.When selecting the “Average” or “Median” summary, the format of the summary is the same as the format of the lines being summarized. If my column is a “Count” from rows of another table, then they are an integer, and my summary is an integer too.This is not helpful in my case, as my real average is 2.54. I don’t want to see 3.I worked around it by creating a formula column that is equal to the Count column, setting the format as decimal, and then using it for my summary.

Duration fields are awesomely useful. However, if one wants to simply transfer the displayed duration (e.g. 1:45) to another field via a formula, Airtable passes along the stored value in seconds. Converting that back into a duration-like display is doable, but a little tricky, as I found out in this recent discussion: Convert Seconds to h:mm in forumla

Feature: Ability to assign views to groups.This would be great for pro/enterprise plan users that operate a department wide base (such as our team) where 30+ teams have access to the base. Teams are eager to create tailored views for their team but this can clutter the view UI with many teams, even if we train them to use sections.The current solution allows team members to create personal views and assign to other users (something I suggested in our initial sales demo so I’m super excited to see that) but they have to make them public collaborative views if they want to share with their team members. This is fine for smaller bases but gets cumbersome for large bases with many different users.

Our company currently uses the Pro version of Airtable and it would be SO helpful if we could have at least just ONE Other workspace for archival purposes. It’s a bummer the options go from a single workspace in the first three plan options and then goes to unlimited for the Enterprise. This jump is unfair to the growing companies where the enterprise plan doesn’t make sense… Just one additional workspace would allow us to have an “Archive” workspace and separate new projects with past/finished projects that we still need to keep data for and reference.Thank you for your consideration.

Currently I can only clip an image to the web clipper attachment field. I’d like to be able to clip/add a PDF or document to the attachment field as opposed to just an image.

Hi there, When i expand a record in a view, the fields are shown in the same order as the view except for the hidden fields. Those are always (i think) moved to the bottom of the form. This behaviour is not welcome some times. For exemple, when i group records by some field i usually hide grouping field column in the view, but usually want to see it as the first field in the expanded record form. What i suggest is that the expanded record form follows the order of the fields in the “hide fields” menu (the one at the right of the view name). In that menu anyone can easily reorder all the fields including those that are hidden by dragging and dropping them. Thank you and great software by the way. João Melo

It would be great if there was a way to sort the bases in a workspace alphabetically or by last modified. There would ideally still be the option to sort the bases manually.This would help tremendously when dealing with a workspace that has many bases. I know you can search for the name of a base, but I don’t always remember what I’ve named the bases.I can imagine the SORT option being included in the workspace dropdown:

It would be extremely useful to have the ability to control whether a lookup-type field only returns unique values versus showing the full list of lookup values. For example: Table 1:Record ARecord BRecord C Table 2:Record X, Category 1, Links to Record ARecord Y, Category 2, Links to Record BRecord Z, Category 2, Links to Record B If I add a Lookup field to Table 1 showing which categories are in the values linked to these records from Table 2, I get: Table 1:Record A, Linked to Table 2: “Record X”, Category Lookup: “Category 1”Record B, Linked to Table 2: “Record Y, Record Z”, Category Lookup: “Category 2, Category 2”Record C: Linked to Table 2: “”, Category Lookup: “” The desired behavior is that this Lookup field would show “Category 2” without the duplicate for Record B in Table 1.

I like that I can see what changes have been made in a records. However, I lost a ton of rows and I don’t know why. There should be a way to see what has been deleted and by whom (or what, in the case of deletions by way of api).

This would be a very useful feature to prevent people from accidentally entering dates that have already passed, or to restrict to a certain period of time (e.g. no more than two weeks ahead).Additionally if you have a form with several date fields, you could have conditional restrictions on what date could be entered based on a previous date entered (e.g. a finish date would always have to be after a start date).

The order of the options in a Single Select field are defaulted to alphabetical when accessed via a Lookup field. This means that grouping by the lookup field ignores your assigned order, which is very frustrating. If the options are ordered a certain way, it is a disservice to violate that. Please preserve the order of the single select field through lookups.If for example I have a Single Select field with options:“Priority”“Casual”“Delisted”When I access that field via Lookup and Group my view on it, my records will come grouped in the following order:“Casual”“Delisted”“Priority”Just like that, an intentional order is ruined.
