We use RabbitMQ a lot to take action when certain record events happen. For example, when users are created in a table, this sends a message which triggers account creation in other systems. At the moment, we use scripting automations to send POST requests to our RabbitMQ HTTP API. This is cumbersome, and there's no way to listen to events without creating webhooks. We would love first-class AMQP integration in Airtable. This would look like: In automations, the ability to send an AMQP message with a routing key and payload Ability to listen to an AMQP topic and take action

I would like to send you a possible feature improvement of automations: :point_right: Being able to schedule the turning on or off of an automation What do you think? Link to tweet

I’m trying to send notifications while avoiding them being sent at midnight UTC (one of the trigger conditions is the number of days since an event has happened). I’d like them to be sent at 6pm UTC+2, not at midnight, but I also want them to trigger based on conditions, and can’t use the “Scheduled time” because then it’d run only one time for all the record that matches (I need to run it once per record), as I’m sending one SMS to each user. Is there a way to have a formula field with the current time of the day (the hour)? Or another way?

Oftentimes my automations that include a scripting step don’t fail but also it don’t behave the way I want or expect. I want to be able to search/filter the run history of an automation based on the primary field of the record that caused the problem. That way I can find the run log and troubleshoot the issue via console logs I included in my scripting step. 🙂

Howdy! I frequently run into instances where I need two or more sets of iterations within the same table base. Primarily for my work, this comes down to different process counts, line items, shipment number, or invoice count. I have found a way to work around this for linked records, where an automation can take the result of a rolled up count field of the primary linked record and add that to a number field as an “Iteration”. However, our organization can only have so many automations within a month, and multiplying that for every single process will be cumbersome to implement and a pain if we run out of automations. I would love to see the options for the “Auto-number” field type tie to a specific other field and another option to iterate continuously or scale to the total number of tied records. An example of the continuous iteration would be a single select for a process type, which should iterate even if one of the records was deleted, while an example of the scaling process would be for linked records associated with line items, where if item 2 of 3 was deleted, autonumber 3 could scale back to 2. This may be a minor thing for other people, but I have to manually type or create work around automations for this at least three times a day.

On the topic of Automation Run errors, the automatic emails Airtable sends are far too cryptic. When you actually click from the email back into the product, you don’t take me to the exact execution that caused an error (instead, I’m left to “doom scroll forever” to find it). So… crazy idea here… what if the Error emails Airtable sends ACTUALLY INCLUDES more details about the error that was encountered? Like maybe a copy of the execution log? Or something like that? Please? (I really don’t want to waste my time dealing with bad UX while trying to fix automation issues.)

Frankly, this should have been implemented by now. I shouldn’t have to manually keep track of stats run per automation. Why is this important? Well, once you hit your 50K runs/month limit, the first sane thing you’ll want to do is: Figure out which Automation was responsible for contributing THE MOST to this months quota. Does Airtable provide any built-in way to manage this? No. So you’re left spending more dev cycles implementing some hokey third-party webhook system to capture EVERY Automation Run evaluation and writing the date of each evaluation out to something like a Google Sheet (because Google Sheets don’t have a 50K record limit). Then, once your stats are in Google Sheet, you need to spend time building graphs split by Automation Name to see how many executions ran per minute/per day/per week to figure out likely culprits. Again, more time wasted. Next, once you find the culprit Automations, you might want to search the Automation Run logs to around the time WHEN THE SPIKE HAPPENED. Does Airtable allow you to do this? Sure – you can pull up the run logs… AND THEN YOU HAVE TO MASSIVELY SCROLL through historical logs – there’s no way to say “take me to the run logs back on 2022-04-15 @ 12:25 UTC” exactly – no, you’re left manually scrolling and clicking the “more” button for ever… and ever… and ever… and… well, you get the point. Oh, and while we’re on this topic, when Airtable generates an email saying that an Automation Run encountered an error – unless you click that email within about 1-2 minutes of receiving it – let’s say you open up the email like 1-2 days later, IT DOES NOT AUTO-SCROLL you to the location in the logs where the error took place … No! Instead, you’re left to have to manually scroll again through the logs to figure out where it was located. TL;DR: Automation Run logs suck; there’s no way to scroll or search them by time, keyword (sorely needed) We need Automation Run stats, in the form of graphs showing executions by day – split by Automation Name. This helps users not exceed Automation Run quotas.

Is there anyway we can get notifications to be more customized. For example, i want notifications for when I am tagged in a comment but I do not want them when there is just a general note. Currently the only way to do this is if we mark each data entry as “not watching”. While this is possible it is meticulous and repetitive Thanks Ron

For example, when a record triggered sending an email, it would be great if that would show up in the audit log so that I don’t need to CC myself or need to dig into the run automations log to confirm.

This is actually a bug in my opinion, but since it’s been around for a while… I think the activity log details should be in step with the automation history. Right now when a user pastes a new record or field for example, followed by an immediate undo or overwrite with another value, automations will fire on the pre-undo values. You will not find these original values in the record history however as it doesn’t actually store / show changes when they are really close to each other. The result is an automation update that doesn’t make sense in the context of the activity log. Needless to say this can cause discussion and hours of searching when you’re not aware of that ‘feature’. Improvement would be much appreciated.
