You can only use some of our rooms for specific types of events. So, if an {Event Type} was a “Recording Session” then it would be great to limit my {Room} field selection (multiple select type) to ONLY the recording studio rooms in our venue. Sadly, the ARRAY functions don’t work in the way that people are expecting them to work in Airtable. And that leaves us with unresolvable problems in Airtable. The ARRAY functions work under a very limited set of circumstances, but it says right on the formula field reference page that they are supposed to work with lookup fields, rollup fields, and linked fields as an input. This just isn’t true, as you can see from this thread here. ARRAYJOIN, ARRAYFLATTEN, ARRAYCOMPACT, and ARRAYUNIQUE simply do not work under many common scenarios — even when feeding them the “approved inputs” of lookup fields or rollup fields. The ARRAY functions seem to only work when you have one input only, but not multiple inputs — even though the examples on the formula field reference page all show multiple inputs. For example, this problem remains unresolved, because the ARRAY functions don’t work as documented. Airtable Team: Please revisit these ARRAY functions and make them work under all circumstances. (And instead of changing the Airtable documentation to downgrade the functionality of the ARRAY functions, it would be better to FIX THE ARRAY FUNCTIONS so that they work as expected.) Currently if a formula field will return only a date or a number, Airtable will have formatting options for that formula field. However, if the formula will return a string or might return a string, or might return anything other than a date/number, there are no formatting options. Sometimes I write a formula so that it will usually output a date or number, but will return a string if an error condition is met. For example, a formula might calculate the number of days between two dates (a number) but output a string if the end date is before the begin date. This product suggestion has multiple parts to deal with these situations: Allow formulas to output errors which are distinct from the calculated value. For example, if a formula calculates a negative number, but negative numbers are not allowed from a business logic point of view, have the formula report an error that would be recognized as an error, not just another value. This would be similar to the #ERROR message, but could include a human readable string saying what the error is from a business logic point of view. Once formulas can report errors as errors, many formulas that sometimes return strings could then be considered to always return a number or a date or an error or blank, and thus could have formatting options. Increase the formatting options for formula fields to include formatting options for all the formula types. For example, a formula could be formatted as a centered check box (not just a left aligned emoji), as a rating with stars, as a select (with the colors of a select). ... View more

It would be nice to input formulas and or be less restrictive in the Filter function. I am trying to filter out anniversaries and birthdays by the current month so that I can send out mailers. Right now, I have to create a separate column with a function that pulls out the month and then I have to go into filter and change the filter to the respective month each month. It would be nice to just put a filter of "is…MONTH(TODAY()) and it would automatically update each month as well as I would be able to avoid having to create a separate column to accomplish this task. ... I didn’t know how to say this concisely in the subject line. It’s nice that groups have the options for sum, average, etc of that group. However, I’d like to be able to change the calculation of the entire view separately from the groups. Let me give an example as I know that wasn’t clear. I keep track of time spent and the associated hourly rate. I have 3 views that group my times by each day, each week, and each month. This way I can see at a glance if I’ve met my daily, weekly, and monthly goals. For example, in the monthly view, each week is grouped and I can see the total (sum) of my hours per group. At the bottom of the page, it also sums the total of all the groups combined. Makes sense. However, If I want to see the average time spent per month, when I change the bottom calculation to average, the individual groups change to average as well. So now the groups show my average number of hours per day and of course the bottom calculation averages my daily averages. I’d like to be able to keep my groups set to sum and only the overall calculation changed to average. This way my groups add up total number of hours, then I can see an average of these totals. Love the long text field rich text options. Can we extend markdown to formulas as well? Why The usage could extend way beyond this, but my use cases are summary fields using rollups and formulas. Right now it looks like this: But as ‘Satuses’ scales to track more complicated lists, I’d like it to look more like: Complete 001: Modeling (someone’s name) 002: Modeling (someone’s name) Incomplete 003: Modeling (someone’s name) 004: Modeling (someone’s name) The bold formatting really makes a difference from a readability standpoint. Can we please implement an iterator field or a formula based on a same-field, different-record lookup? There are some extremely elaborate base structures just to overcome the fact that Airtable currently does not support any type of iterative formula. A simple example: I have two tables Projects Table Tasks Table I assign records in the Tasks table to a project, lets say 3-50 tasks per project. Then each task is linked to the next and previous task (a pain in itself currently, but lets not worry about that here). I simply want to sort by task number in the sequence. This sounds easy, but currently isn’t! If I could have a formula field that simply looked up the same field on a linked record and added 1, I would be golden! Unfortunately, instead I had to create 50 lookup fields to achieve an illusion of this capability limited to a maximum of 50 records. Of course a circular reference might occur if someone linked the record to itself on accident, but if that could just throw an “error” I would be very happy 🙂 ... View more

A client of mine just discovered a small issue with Airtable when it comes to the “Send Record” command. (“Send Record” is the command you can choose when right-clicking on a record.) If you have an attachment field as part of your record, Airtable will place a small thumbnail of your attachment in the outgoing email. This is fantastic! 🙂 However, if your attachment field is actually a LOOKUP FIELD that displays an attachment, then the thumbnail is no longer placed in the outgoing email. Airtable just places a link to the attachment instead. What’s interesting is that all other types of lookup fields (text, dates, numbers, etc.) seem to get placed in the outgoing email just fine — it seems like only attachments cause this issue. ... It would be awesome if Airtable’s formula engine could recognize “curly quotes” as the same thing as "straight quotes". When editing formulas on mobile web browsers, curly quotes are the default. And, when copying and pasting formulas that have curly quotes from other places — such as this forum, which changes quotes to curly quotes outside of a code block, or rich-text editing apps which change quotes — the formulas won’t work upon pasting them into Airtable. There have been multiple times where I have been scratching my head in confusion over a “seemingly-perfect formula” that doesn’t work properly, but it is actually failing because the quotes are curly. ...
